I usually don't even bother flipping them out when I tow our 8' wide 5th wheel. I will if I'm going to be towing a few hundred miles, but don't bother on the shorter trips.

you're nuts... flipped out tow mirrors are awesome
After reading all of two posts... . I concur.

These flip out towing mirrors are still the best factory mirror of any of 'em. The spot mirror IS in the wrong spot when down, but it's sooooo perfect when up. Also, the mirrors sit up too high, I like how the Ford mirrors are lower. But all in all these are as good as it gets, factory.

I don't understand all the "near misses" with cars in the blind spot.

I agree. With my tow mirrors in the tow postion, there is no such thing as a blind spot. Even with them down I don't think there is one... I don't drive with them down enough to think off hand.

If you follow these directions, you nearly eliminate blind spots. With the mirrors "UP" your convex mirror also gives you a view behind the vehicle, owing to it's position. How to Set Rearview Mirrors to Eliminate Blind Spots - wikiHow.

I'm trying this out. Definitely takes some getting used to, but it does give excellent vision for vehicles in/around the blind spots.

Only problem is you can't see your rear wheels while backing up to park.

To the right side, view is blocked, and to the left, even folded down, ATMs, drive-in windows, etc. are more difficult to use.

Amen to that. I have to fold mine in AND 3/4 the way down to get in an ATM and some drive-thrus. Of course, being in a 3/4 ton Dodge, it's never going to be easy at an ATM. I've had to get out more than once to pick up the dropped card #@$%!

the only thing i didnt like about these mirrors is when people would drive around empty with the mirrors flipped up. it looks dumb.

True, but form follows function, and they work 10x better flipped up.

We learned this in the Army Accident Avoidance training. It's very true about not being able to see your rear wheels, but I can usually see well enough to back into my carport using the convex mirror and it's a tight fit. Still is hard to judge where to stop when backing into a parking spot when there's a car behind you. That's why I prefer to either pull thru or park in an outside row.

I have covered many miles with my wide body Teton and now a wide body Mobile Suite Fifth Wheel and find the trailer tow mirrors on my 2005 to be quite suitable. Also I always use the bubble mirror to double check the lane I want to change to. Find them very suitable for serious towing.
