Ford Ranger Question

Anyone ever have one of these??

Pretty sweet little cars. 90% of them had leather and were totaly optioned out. They had a 2. 6 mitsu turbo intercooled 4cylinder in them. Kinda nose heavy on the handling but could do anything with some throttle stuck in it :D. I miss mine I had BOMBed it with a bigger turbo and some other little things. It had the best limited slip unit i think ever produced. Mine was like the one above but it was black with black leather.

And best of all they have no resale value lol. . I got mine for $1600 with cold air... it sold new for around 20K in 1987. It wasn't the most reliable of beasts but it was fast and fun!! Sadly enough if I didn't need my CTD to pull a trailer for my race car I would have another one! But man what a PITA to work on lol. My dodge does satisfy my turbo desire quite well though :D it just doesn't turn for sh*t lol

this big ol' Dodge is not my first turbo...

When I was about to finish Pharmacy school out in Weatherford, I test-drove one just like that over at the "brand F" dealership in Clinton. (on the "used" lot)... . I had a letter from my first company, detailing my date of hire, salary, etc. and the salesman, who had apparently never seen a document guaranteeing employment, laughed me off the lot. A couple of days later, in OKC, I got an '85 Lancer 4-door with the blown 2. 2 ... Then the sales mgr from the first place called and said, "still want that red one?"... I then laughed him off the phone... :p

been a big fan of enhanced compression ever since!

SURE, Ive driven them... mild to wild!!! Like most Mitsu's, you can get HP out of them, but they're fragile. Theres tons of the new Eclipse cars out there on the Import drag scene... not exactly sure how they keep them together. I ran the One Lap of America about 10 years ago or so... there were 2 guys in an Omni GLH with the 2. 2 turbo motor... . went thru the radar trap at Charlotte at 156mph!!!! I had to go look at it (it appeared stock on the outside) and found a disgusting greasy mess under the hood... like it hadnt been touched in 80,000 miles... . to this day I dont understand it!

My sister had one 8 years ago

Neat cars. I drove hers from time to time

and yes it was a blast! I wanted to get

one myself but bigger and better things

came along (1993 Z28 Camaro!).

I had to drive from Raleigh NC to Myrtle

Beach SC to rescue it once. The catalytic

converter was so clogged that it ran like

a dog and hissed loudly out the tailpipe.

It ran better than ever after we put on a

new one. Other than that it was a very

reliable car.

I have driven 5 different ones. Only 1 of them ran like it was supposed to. It hauled a$$!! I have had several D-50 pickups with the 2. 6 mitsubishi and abused the crap out of them. They are very tough with the exeption of the oil pump/balance shaft chain and guides. Keep the chain adjusted and they will run forever. :)

My wife had one when we started dating, I put some miles on it. Hers was real quick but I spent a fair amount of time under the hood. Five speed is a must. I had a blast on a camping trip playing rallye on some dirt roads, throwing the rear out on every turn an throwing a rooster tail on the straighta ways.

I kinda looked for a GLH omni when i was 15, it was one of the cars on my list. I decided i might have a fast car but driving an omni to school was just no good. YOu can make the little mopar 2. 2s fly with little work. MP sells a Super 60 kit that is good for 300hp. Its not that cheap but you would have a 300hp front wheel drive car.

About the 2. 6 bieng tough. The Conquest/Starion motors had forged cranks. I had overboosted and detonated mine many many times. My homemade boost controler #1 was very sensitive to temperature changes... . that cost me alot of spark plugs lol.
