Best gas grill?

Stupidity at its finest

The patriot said:
6. 8 SPC is said to be about 80% of the "power" of the 308.

Pretty effective for a cartrige in the AR platform.

The 6. 8 Grendel is supposed to be a better long range ctg. It's said to stay sonic out to 1000 Yds +.

~Now for the shameless plug:

I sell LMT and DPMS AR parts among other brands. I can get a healthy discount on most items. :D

Eric

The 6. 8 SPC is not a good long range round, but so far I'm loving mine. Nice light recoil with some good power to it. And the Grendel is actually a 6. 5mm, not a 6. 8.

Here is my 6. 8 (has a VLTOR clubfoot stock on it now though)

It shoots pretty good groups. This is a 5 shot group at 100yds w/ me lying in the bed of my ram, which is not comfortable.

Here is it's first kill, was hoping for something bigger though.

The LC stuff is OK. Not terribly accurate, and not a true A. P. round.

It's made to penetrate a helmet @ 600 yds (IIRC) so it has a MILD steel core.

Stay away from the stuff made in the U. A. E. It's garbage. I think it's sold under the name of "Adcom" or something like that.

Mine was stolen just before the ban, sn below 10,500, made in the late sixties with the bottleneck still in the reciever... . :{

Time for a new one!

the guy i do part time gun work for just recovered a few that his exwife dumped in a lake several years ago, the cops destroyed the first couple by just pulling them out and hosing them off and letting them dry, they welded themselves together, the 2nd duffel bag load was treated properly and kept in the muck till they could be cleaned and they fired pretty much right out of the bag

I had a Colt M-4 in Iraq with the 16" barrel, and let me tell you, in the hands of someone who knows how to shoot, they can be VERY accurate. I would shoot 2 hole, 3 shot groups at 50 meters and my longest confirmed kill was 498 yards, thats with 5. 56 NATO and a 16" barrel! And could still hit a cinder block at 600 yards. Was good enough that the M14 carrying "snipers" gave me props:-laf Though, I did have a Leopold 1-3x CQT, so I did have a slight advantage over your run of the mill soldier with open sights. Even though, any AR-15, M-16, M-4 style weapon can be very accurate and dependable, just depends who's hands its in.

cinder block at 600 ... hmmmm ...

guess i know what i'll be doing today:-laf

although i'll have to keep my scope on 4x ...

i'm looking for a good M4gery ...

moma gave me the ok so she can shoot with me ... just hard to come by in WV

JFlagg, thanks for protecting your country bro ...

Military issue M4's (true M4's) have a 14. 5" barrel.

I just figured it was 16" 'cuz thats the shortest I've seen advertised, though, I guess Uncle Sam can order whatever he wants;) I just know its shorter than my . 270s barrel:D

As far as that 600 yard cinder block... had to aim about 30" high and 12" right... . was breezy that day;) Though, that 30" is an estimate, the dot in my Leopold CQT would cover it up at that range. AND it took me 2 "ranging" shots to get in dialed in, but after that it was on all afternoon... The . 50 Barret was real fun on the cinder blocks at 1100 yds plus:D Would put that equal to my Cummins on the fun-o-meter:D

PS. Someone with a ballistics chart for 5. 56 NATO could probably let us know the bullet drop at 600 yards for a more accurate story;)

You can get all different barrel lengths, but shorter than 16" is an "NFA" weapon. Uncle sugar dont have to worry about that. :D

10", 14. 5", 16" and 20" are most common. 18" (SDM/SPR length)is quickly becoming popular.

Stay safe.

Eric

Could be. The 10" is just past the hand guards. IIRC they make them even shorter, but I dont know if the reliability is there.

Even the 10" ones have to be "just right" in order to get reliability.

Generally 14. 5" is considered the shortest barrel you want for 100% reliability in combat conditions.

Anything shorter than that, they get finicky about port pressures, ammo, etc,etc.

edit: were talking in 223/5. 56. in other cals like 9mm theyre not gas operated, so they can be made any length.

Yes, and unfortunately, the ACOGs are made for 20 and 14. 5 inches, so my 16 inch Stag isn't compatible with either. I ended up buying a 20 incher. Luckily I picked up an Armalite M15A4 National Match that's perfect for the ACOG scope.

As for the higher caliber ARs, if you like the idea of a . 243 and you like the idea of a . 308, try looking at the new DPMS . 260. It's essentially a 6. 5mm bullet in a . 308 case. You get the benefit of excellent bullets in a flat shooting, very flexible weapon. Lot of high sectional density bullets in various weights for numerous types of game, from larger varmints up to medium game. Think of it as either a 6. 5 Grendel on steroids, or a slightly reduced load 6. 5x55 Swedish Mauser. Me, personally: I would be preferential to an AR produced by RRA, Armalite, Stag or Bushmaster, in that order. I have a Stag and an Armalite. Stag produces the M&P15 for S&W.

I was always a fan of the 6. 5mm. I've been wanting to get a barrel for my Savage in 260, but I want a fast twist.

Too bad Sierra discontinued their 155 gr 6. 5. :{

You could have gotten a 14. 5" and perminently installed a slightly longer flash hider.

I've been working up some HOT 77 gr loads in my 20".

I got 2830 FPS with good accuracy using surplus 4895.

The Grendel looks real good to me, but I'm short on funds right now. :{

Some of my buddies in Iraq had ACOGs and I wasn't a big fan of them, or the AimPoints either. The only upside to them over my Leopold CQT was that Uncle Sam paid for them, were I had to buy my Leopold:(

True, but at the time, I wasn't looking to mess with it. Perhaps at a later date. Right now, I have a good 20 inch rifle for the ACOG anyway. ACOGs are anything but cheap.

Lapua makes perhaps the most accurate 6. 5 bullets for the Grendel in 123 grains, the Scenar, but they're a target/varmint bullet. 155 grains would be on the extreme end for a Grendel, but probably well within the upper extreme for the . 260 Remington (6. 5-08).
