How are the Spikes Lower Recievers?

I figured I will buy a CA legal AR-15 since I had so much fun with my friends rifle. But being low on funds means I'll build it as I can afford it.

This is the one I an looking at... #ad

$170 for the stripped lower or I can pay $225 for a centermass stripped lower.

Hard to tell with just a pic, but it looks nice.

For my $$$ I'd get the SDM billet lower (dealer $105+ shipping) and a cali mag kit thingy.

Throw about $20 for the transfer and buy some ammo with the leftover $$$.

But does SDM ship to CA? The guy at 10% buys from a guy in texas as the manufactures wont **** to a CA dealer(as I have heard). Thats why CA prices are so much higher.

I dont know what's on Cali's "list".

I have a hard enough time keeping within the law here in NJ. :-{}

I cant see why it would be banned, it's physically identical to the Spikes lower, however I know that laws do NOT have to have any logic, rhyme or reason. #@$%!

I know that the RRA lower is listed on the ban list but others are not. No idea why. But I'll take advantage if it where ever I can.

Suppressor..

Hey,

A guy at the shooting range just bought a silencer for his . 45 pistol. He said it was a piece of cake to get the permit. He just went down to his town hall, said he wanted one & they gave hime the paperwork. The suppressor was a lot more expensive than I thought. $500 = $200 (for a federal tax?) = $700.

He tired it in his backyard. Says it's no louder than a BB gun. Sounded neat the way he was talking about it.

The Noveske (thanksBTighe) in the pic has a surpressor on its barrel?

Stake Man, I just built up a 16" Match Chrome-Moly 1:9 twist, 11deg crown Barrel, A2 Car Kit from M&A Parts in Lake Zurlich IL. The Kit consisted of everything but the stripped lower receiver. I paid about an extra $75. 00 for the stripped lower here in town from a local dealer just to make sure I was on the books if "They" came a lookin'.

Now this is just freindly advice not legal advice... . I am new to the AR world and I am still learning, but from what I could gather from other folks and reading, the laws are a vicious cycle of certain parts bans, parts combination bans, and intended use bans.

#1 You will need to get an "Off List Lower"

#2 The magazine, Fixed & hold 10rnds max. (I modded mine to appear to be

fixed when I want it to)

#3 No flash Suppressor/hider. (I have a mock Suppressor)

#4 Barrel length-16" min. Overall length 26" min.

#5 Stock, Non-collapsible fixed stock. (I put on a tactical fixed shorty stock,

but with my long monkey arms it is uncomfortable so i am putting on a

std length skeleton stock.

I also got it chambered for 5. 56 Nato so I could shoot both 223 & 5. 56 ammo without any issues. From some posts I have read there have been several issues with the chambered 223's shooting surplus 5. 56 ammo. Surplus ammo is all I need for target plinking, ground squirrels & coyotes. I shoot better ammo for hogs and deer.

Check out AR15.com, they have alot of good info.

When you get it together & if your ever in my area give me a holler, I have a few hundred acres we can test her out on.

P. S. If anyone has contrary info. to anything above, please let me/us know. The last thing I want to do is get someone in trouble.

Good luck, Happy shooting, Robert

Glad I don't live in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. The only differences in my Stag L15 and a GI M4 carbine are 16 inch barrel (14. 5 on GI) and I have a removable front sight gas block, which I think is bayonet lug free, FWIW. Plus the ejection port is on the LH side.
