Ash Tray Will Not Stay Shut

I'm looking for some help. My ash tray does not want to stay shut. I don't see any sort of catch that holds it. Has anybody experienced this before and if so, how did you fix it?

BTW truck is an 05 quad cab with SLT interior.

On the top of the ashtray there are two clips like the dash panels that hold it in. Just pull at the top of it and it should pop out, when you get it out you should be able to look at it and figure out what is not working.

Mine did that for about the first year I owned the truck. I noticed the tray wasn't plumb with the dash, and tweaked the mount and its worked flawless since.

My 06 has no ashtray...

I believe that they changed the interior in 06 IIRC.

JaPol, thanks for the tip. Last night while I was driving home in the dark I reached down and pulled it out just like you said. I played with it out of the dash and the latch worked fine. I put it back in and now it works. Done in less than two minutes in the pitch dark.

I had the same problem, but it turns out it was from change (that I stored in the ash tray) spilling out during braking and keeping it from closing completely.

When I bought my truck almost 4 years ago, the ashtray was 'broken' and would fall out over extreme bumps or if I knocked it with my knee. Took it back to MacIver Dodge 3 times... . still broken, still falls out, only use it for coins... . but its such a pain!! I don't have a fix though...
