I am in need of a front wheel bearing assembly. I replaced one in July for 320 at a local parts store. I just called them to get the other one and the prioce went up to 429. My parts guy told me they were bought by carquest, and he appoligizes, saying that they took away his mechanics discounts.

I checked autozone on line they have the timken unit for 379.

and rockauto on line has the same part for 259.

Question is: Has anyone used Rockauto.com? any comments? good? bad?

Rockauto has a lot of customers on this forum. I believe they give TDR members a discount.

Can anyone confirm the discount, and if so how would you go about getting it applied.

I tried looking on the TDR site as well as all over the rock auto site.

Thank you

I trust NAPA far more then AutoZone or other auto parts stores. Also check with a dealer for price and ask for a discount.

I buy all my parts from rockauto if I get the chance. Prices are hard to beat and I've always had good dealings with their customer service.

I started using Rock earlier this year after reading about it right here on TDR (never heard of them before that).

I have placed probably 20-30 orders since then, and can say they are excellent, at prices that beat all the local big chains hands down. The discount makes it even better yet.

The only two things I would say to watch for are: 1) returns - they don't seem to like to get anything back, and gave me a minor hassle one time; and 2) the shipping cost. They apparently use a network of distributors, and on large orders of many different parts, sometimes they come from multiple warehouses, and each charges shipping separately. It can add up fast to the point where it would be cheaper to buy locally. The good thing is, the shopping cart clearly shows this, so they are not trying to slip it by. Just pay attention.
