I'm finally going to do it, i'm just not sure what to use or how to get it done  I already have an Autometer Z series transmission gauge in a single pod just below smart controller. I have a dual pillar mount with tweeter but alas no gauges. I need to know what 2 gauges would be best for use and a simple install. Do i stay with Z series or go another route? i like the black face. i figure i need a pyrometer, but not sure if i need a boost or fuel pressure gauge. if i go with the fuel gauge should it be mechanical or electric? For me simple install would be better. :{ or should i go with the dual westach and have all three? there's so much info out there it makes you crazy. Just like when i had to decide on what transmission rebuild to go with. I love my decision, but this seem more difficult. I'm not sure if i like the fuel coming into the cab, can someone clarify that for me. I have 130 k on my CTD and love the hell out of it. , i just want to do the right thing the first time. please help all you knowlegable friends out there. I'm finally going with synthetic oil ( about time i guess) i also want to change my 354's for 411's. So any info on that would be considered.

Thanks,Joe

installed westachs nearly 3 years ago . zero problems so far. i took a long time installing them. used all aircraft wire ,terminals, hoses, etc. made custom brackets to mount fuel pressure sender, wiring all protected by shilding to prevent chafing. alsomade custom terminal board for all the wiring. kind of over kill but it has worked well and worth all the effort.

I like Westach too. Really well made. The company also makes aircraft gauges. No problems with the electronic fuel pressure gauge on my 12 valve which is a lot harder on fuel pressure gauges than the 24 valve.

I went with the Westach's tri-A pillar w/tweeter, gages top to bottom, fuel psi, trans temp & combo EGT/Boost. Four monitoring devices in one easy to glance at spot - works for me. Did the install over a weekend taking my time. Only had to remove pillar cover once to tighten loose ground on FP gage.

I really like my auto meter ultra lites. A couple guys I know think that the di-pricols are the easiest to read(at night I think). But I understand being picky about mods to a truck. I decided to go with what I liked the best and be happy. If you change your mind down the road chances are good that someone will buy the gauges from you if you change your mind.

I would say you need the Pyro, boost, fuel pressure and ATF temp. Since you already have an Autometer I would go with matching. But since you only have the two cup pillar the dual meter gauge like Westach would be nice.

I think a mechanical fuel pressure gauge would require you to ran a small fuel line into your cab, and I would never do this.

autometer Z's

I have autometer z FP, Pyro and Trans Temp in a triple pillar mount. Looks great and matches factory closely. However, night lighting is poor. Maybe I can put in a better bulb? Per Rip's instructions I ran fuel into the cab after a needle valve at the pump and braided hose. A careful install and I have no worries of about a leak.

good luck

Issue thirty-four has an article on gauges, other than declaring di-procol as the best lit gauge, it was hard to determine a winner.

You can run a mech FP gauge without fuel entering the cab, enterprise engineering and others make a pressure isolator. The isolator is installed beteen the gauge and the pressure source, from the isolator to the gauge is some other fluid (not diesel fuel). I am awaiting delivery of one right now.

How much power are you planning to add? Boost and Pyro are the usual suspects, however fuel pressure is nice to know, especially if you are dreaming of 350+hp down the road.

You could always sell the 2-gauge pod and get a 3-gauge. We offer all of those gauges that match the "Z-series" with our own logo on them as well. You can see pics on the website.

No need for fuel in the cab, just use a diaphram isolator. Mount it on the firewall and run braided stainless to it, if a problem occures the mess is under the hood. Use a tube with antifreeze to go into the cab to the gauge. I'm using DiPricol's as well.

get the three guage set up you wont regret it. Di procol boost pyro and fuel pressure with isolator and propod they are nice pods and they come matched to your interior no painting neccesary

I went with Westach because I wanted the boost/egt combo guage. And I also wanted fuel pressure and trans temp. That way I could put four guages in three holes on the pillar. As a pilot I'm familar with westach guages in some of the planes I've flown and I've been impressed with their reliabablity and accuracy... and I like the aircraft look. I had an occaision to be near their shop and stopped in and ordered the guages... had them put colored markings on things like max egt and min fuel pressure... made 'em custom... pretty cool.

i have the di procal and like them. i was a car audio installer years ago and one of my installer buddies has a diesel performance shop. i just let him do it. no fuel comes in my cab either. i have boost, egt and fuel press.

Joe, go with the Autometer Z pyro/FP and match them up to the transmission temp I already installed for you when I did your transmission. The Autometer FP has the isolator, so no fuel in the cab.

You want 4. 10's or 3. 73's? Let me know, I can get that taken care of too.

hi fred, i tries calling the guys # you sent but i havent heard back. i think i want to go with the 410's i'd rather have more towing capacity than mileage.
