Esthetically, those mirrors do leave something to be desired!!! However, the bigger question is, what caused this guy to resort to trying these mirrors? Most likely, because the stock towing mirrors don't work very well.
This guy is a "Hotshotter" which means he uses the truck, commercially, & most likely is not too concerned with how the truck looks but, how well it works. Those mirrors probably 'function' better than the stock towing mirrors.
The older I get, the more difficult it is to see anything in those small, stock convex mirrors. I'd love to have much larger convex mirrors on my '03, 3500 but, can't figure out how to attach them to my truck. I installed a 6" convex mirror on the drivers side of my '91. 5 W-250 & a 7" mirror on the passengers side. Those mirrors work great. Got them at a big truck supply store. Just a glance at them shows you what is on the sides of your vehicle. On the '03, I have to stare (concentrate) on them before I can actually focus on what is on the sides of the vehicle.
The '91. 5 W-250 has 90* tubes that connects the mirrors to the doors. This is where I connected the convex mirrors with extending brackets. There is no comparison to how much better these larger mirrors work compared to those on the '03.
Bottom line is that, those mirrors may be ugly but, work very well. Probably better to be able to see well than have a cool looking truck.
