Well, now the right rear axle seal is leaking. I replaced the left a few months ago and kept telling myself I better check the rear axle vent hose so I don't build up pressure... too late. Anyway, any advice on clearing the vent hose and replacing the seal would be a great help. You'all wrote, "Check that vent hose", too busy driving the beast and having fun with it... Thanks in advance, Patrick:eek:

Carb cleaner??

I used a scriber to clean the fitting on the housing. Most of the crud was jammed in there. A little carb cleaner and a bottle brush should do the trick on the hose. ;)

or if you have....

an air compressor. That'l do it also.

Just remove the hose and blow thru the open side moderately to clear any debris.

Axle seal replacement...

:D A follow-up on axle seal replacement. So far so good just a little left over 85/90w oil on the inside of the brake drum. Spec's: 70ft-lbs on the axle housing nuts (8). 120-140 ft-lbs on alxe nut, then back out about 120 degrees or until theres no binding on the bearings, from D/C 1993 Ram repair manual. I used a hand held axle seal puller, and pulled from the back side of the drum, tore up the old seal, came out easy. Thanks for the vent tube input, it clean-up well just seemed a little restricted.
