bad fuel?

I was in Connecticut over the weekend and on the way my fuel gauge quit on me. I filled on the way there and knew I could not get all the way back so I topped off my tank at a Citgo. As I was pumping I smelled gas so I stopped pumping. I had about 25 gallons of good diesel in the tank and pumped 7 gallons of the gas smelling diesel. I went inside to ask if it was ,in fact, diesel. He said it was. I paid with a credit card so I had proof I got fuel there. I figured I'd drive for a while and see how the engine ran. It ran fine. I was not pulling anything. I ran 450 miles without a problem. My questions are: Can I call someone to have the fuel tested at that Citgo? If it ran fine can I assume little or no damage was done? If damage was done how can I prove it was caused by bad fuel? I'm sure the Citgo station will say I could have fueled somewhere else and got the bad fuel. It would be impossible to prove unless someone tested their fuel and found it to be bad.
BTW; I just filled up with fresh diesel and calculated 21. 3 mpg. Go figure.

your not the first to have gas in Diesel mix. Try a search and the other thread should show up - use: gas+mixed or some such combo.

Its been discussed in detail (with ratios) and imo if it ran gud then you should be ok BUT you may still want to add alube to the fuel for the pump.

Where I used to work we would once in a while get diesel that smelled like gas. Once I was sure it was mixed with gasoline. The boss called the fuel company that delivered it and said he didn`t know why, but it smells like that once in a while.

My buddy who drives a fuel tanker told me they never rinse their tanks and will switch back and forth with diesel and gas. There are always a few gallons left in the tanks when the switch happens,not enough to worry about,but it will impart a smell.

well 7 to 25 should not hurt anything but add a little extra fuel additive to your tank to give the exra lube. . Everthing should be fine for I have worked on Trucks that have filled up 25gallans of reg gas to 75 gallons of diesel and nothing was damaged... the only thing we did was add extra additive for percausion... and if you want to find out more about the possible problem of bad fuel I would try Dept. of Transportation first and they should be able to lead you in the right direction... And i agee with the others I have worked on tankers and have talked to alot of the drivers and they say the same it is to exspenive to have the tank washed out after every use and that maybe why it has that gas smell

I don't know how Conn is but in Georgia the Dept of Agriculture, Fuels and Measures Division handles testing. Whoever puts the little stickers on the pumps that says the pump is accurate is who you call.
