Oil is coming down by timing gear cover right below vacumn pump. Cant' see if it's from pump or not. Is it a hard job to replace gasket? 1994 auto. 305,000 mi. Runs like new.

If the case isn't cracked, you may be in luck. The timing gear case came loose on my stock '97 w/ 303k and it was leaking off the side of the block right below the vac. pump. I pulled the timing cover and tightened the 2 case bolts behind the gears. Check the KDP while you're in there. Put the cover back on (new seal and gasket) and focus on the lower left 3 case bolts. It pulled the case back in evenly and so far its dry. Check the mounting bracket that holds the P pump up as well to make sure its not putting too much stress on the case. I replaced the vac. pump gasket too- less than $10 and easy to do.

I can't take credit for this idea, I found it somewhere in the archives here. Cross your fingers cause the first step in the service manual to fix the gasket behind the case is to pull the motor!
