My truck has the complete kit on it and I am going to upgrade to 3 in pipes. I was wondering if the kit sold all together with intercooler would be worth anything anymore. My plan was to make all of the pipes and intake and have 3 inch welded into the banks intercooler, But if I could sell the whole kit and fund a second gen intercooler and all the pipes I would rather do that. Anybody got an estimate on what I could get out of it?

Another question would be what is the best intercooler to use, One I can get for less than $500.

Sell it to KKunz, he has a post going about putting an intercooler in a 90, and I think he's looking for one now.

It will probobly be the first of the year before I do it. Truck is getting the tax return this year Oo. I wouldnt know what to charge for it any ideas.

Yeah ... ... . What he said sell it to me. I have an intercooler off of a 99 that I was going to put in my 90 but I’m not sure if it will fit since I have AC

If your not looking to do it right away we could probobly work somthing out but I'm not sure it would help you because I'm gonna keep the grill and it sounds like that is your only problem anyway.

What intercoolers are the most efficient? Is the banks unit a good one or a second gen unit or??? Kurt, sounds like you've had some expirence with them, Bill, Stomp, you guy's got any input?

Keep it. I read Kurt has tried a couple custom jobs. That other guy has all the money so he's tried em all LOL. I think he bought one from Pier's. Keep it and one word, injectors my friend.

I know I know they'll be in it before it comes out in the spring. You think the banks unit is good even with less surface area than a second gen unit or powerstroke unit?

Cade, maybe its time to check your intake temp, and see what the charge air temp actually is, before you go ditching an aftercooler. Don't know the specifics, but didn't banks sell an intercooler kit for the 91. 5-93's too that was supposed to be better then stock? Is it the same as yours or different???

I know of a certain 90 that needs an intercooler of some sort... ... do you still have the small turbo too? Or are you keeping it???

The main reason for the question is that I'm going with 3in intake pipes and the intercooler is only 2. 5. I'm not getting rid of the intercooler just going with a bigger one and a water to air cooler after that inline Oo. . Not sure on the banks cooler for the 91. 5-93 trucks??? Ah yeah, the stock turbo had a small problem with fin to housing contact after injesting a large amount of water at about 40lbs of boost. :( oops. Not sure what you want it for but it's probobly no good.

I'd get air intake temp readings before adding the water to the line after the CAC. You may lose ground there if the intake temps are below 180 or so. Normally, you have either water to air OR air to air, not both. Unless you plumb in water from a tank in the bed- that could cool you off some more.

The Banks intercooler is thicker than the stock 91-93 IC, but I'm not sure on other specifics. Seems like they used to advertise more fins and a more efficient core.

I'm gonna open a can of worms! :-{}

For the amount of air that you guys are pushing, wouldn't the air to water cooler restrict the air flow? It seems to me that the cooler is engineered for a specific air flow. You guys are trying to push lots of air. Does anybody have any flow numbers for these coolers? I've seen these things, and they look restrictive for stock! :(

gittin ready to order custom edm's but I figured the intake probably isn't even 2. 5. Maybe I will keep them and do this on a later date. That is true the turbo is barely over 2 inches. The water to air is a custom job not a factory bus unit or anything, heater cores flow pretty good :-laf . Did this on a 454 in school with two t3's on it. It worked really well so I'm gonna try it and see if it makes a difference on the dyno. Thanks for the reply's guys. Someone on another post had a link that showed all the other manufactures intercoolers. The second gen unit was the biggest but since mine is an aftermarket maybe it's a little more efficient. Sounds like i'll keep it and see what happens.

I have pyros installed in the pipes 1 foot before and after intercooler. With the Banks unit air would go in anywhere between 110* and 500* and come out anywhere from 10* above outside air to 180*. For 95 percent of my driving it went in around 160* and came out usually 10*- 20* above outside air. I was suprised how quickly the needle climbed on the inlet side with every pound of boost made. I could easily bury the needle (450+) on the inlet side with full throttle and 28+ pounds of boost. The outlet side needle moves slowly all the time. Only by running it down the 1/4 mile could I get it above 150*.

No readings for a stock cooler sorry, but, unless your making more than 300 hp (IMHO) I think it would be fine. With the Banks unit maybe up to 400 hp.

Banks cooler is same size width and height but is 2. 25" thick compared to 1. 75" stock.

My new Joe Hellmann intercooler is sweet! It has fins in the little core rows even! It is about 3" taller, same width and 3" thick. He custom made it for me and he said he can make more. :D I had him make it with 3. 5" inlet and outlets to match my 3. 5" inlet of my 3rd gen Banks intake horn. If I did it again I would stick with 3" inlet, outlets and intake horn. Many more options for intakes with 3", more room to install the intercooler through radiator support and you can find shops to bend 3" pipe. It fits intercooled trucks even with a/c. A little modification required but not bad.

Inlet temps cannot get to 450* until I'm right to the end of the track. Climbs slower too. Outlet side is usually 5* over outside air. Run it hard down the track, it has yet to exceed 130*. The needle moves so little I wonder if it's working sometimes (I've checked; it works fine).

I sold my Banks intercooler quickly for $400 ($900 new). Joes is around $1000. Get a few of you guys together, maybe less.

From what I undestand Piers intercooler is same dimesions as stock; just better cooling.

Sorry it's long; just trying to answer questions that may arise.

Kurt
