Hello, I was just curious if anyone has tried the banks stinger plus on their truck. If so what did you think of the results? Also where is the best place to get a good deal on the banks packages? THANKS

Stinger Plus.... My Opinion - Doesn't have to be yours

Hey 440...

I put the Banks Stinger Plus on my truck back in Nov. of 1999 when I bought my truck. It's quality made stuff at a fairly stiff price!

A few months afterward I found out about the TDR and realized I could have had better components at the same price or Less... .

My advice would be to purchase a quality 4" Exhaust for your truck verse the 3" to 3 1/2" Banks System. (I didn't like their muffler and eventually installed a Walker) If you like the 14cm2 Exhaust housing, I would go for a non-wastegated one and use your existing downpipe. The Banks "Big Head" wategated 14cm2 is Big Bucks! For Gages..... Your Choice of manufacturer and location (dash vs pillar mount). Install a "Big Honkin' Air Filter" (BHAF) and you would be off to a good start.

These items are what my Banks Stinger Plus consisted of... .

JMHO... .

No way!

Good stuff yes, 10 years ago it was the only game in town. There is no reason to spend that much money when there is bigger and sometimes better stuff available for less. I like Banks for dash mounted guages and maybe the intercooler setup for non-intercooled trucks.

I agree 100%. Build YOUR OWN kit!

I simply did just that. Look at what others have done and ask questions. Then improve upon that.

Yes. . this is the great part about this forum. Most of the guys here share info on everything they do.

Like already said... 10 years ago Banks was king for the 1st gen... now many of the guys here are miles above that level.

(Plus... I'm not sure they still make those kits)

BOMBS away. Have fun.

Yeah, MOST do. However, that Greenleaf guy is always holding back secret stuff. I think he works in the R&D at Smokehouse Diesel!! :-laf :-laf

It's no secret....

..... that I perform some R&D for Scott @ the Smokehouse.

What **is** kept secret is this thing  I'll bet you a Farmers breakfast w/a side of ham that Mysteryman don't even know about this one.

We have been working on this for some time now. I shouldn't be telling you this but... ... ... .....

Scott isn't QUITE sure how to fit this all under the hood... ... ..... It's true that the first Gens are the best platform with engough underhood clearance to take a nap in there but this is a challange... ... ... :--)

I gotta go..... Scott is ALWAYS on my heels

Back to Banks

I built a "custom" setup for under $250, all it took was a little time, and I'd bet that my old 91 would spank the daylights out of a Banks'ed truck. I ported the 18cm housing, added a homemade 4" exhaust, and went to town. I also did some tuning on the AFC pin for increased power with less smoke. So, I could buy 8 of my kits for one Stinger Plus kit.
