In my saltwater boat I would get 5-6 years out of the engine starting battery and about the same out if the trolling motor batteries. That was in Florida heat and they take a lot of shock abuse in a boat, water conditions depending. I would think in a truck they might have an easier life with regard to abuse from the ride.

Lot of heat under the hood of a diesel truck working hard!

I keep the battery receipts in the glove box.

I keep mine in my tax files. They’re a business expense.

Thats good to know ,but I have been pretty lucky with batteries it seems , they ALL have lasted pretty well, at least beyond any warranty they had .. As said my OE are over five and half years old

I know a few fisherman that swear by the Walmart Deep cycle or RV batteries for their pontoon boats.

I’m not saying the batteries are bad. The people are inept at best.

I went with AGMs from Advance Auto Parts back in June. $199.99 each, free installation, and a 1-to-3-year full/up-to-7-year prorated warranty. My truck may sit for periods of time, so the AGMs are less likely to fail because of it. (The receipt shows Samantha as the cashier... and she did the installation too!)

EVERY aftermarket ?? Okay got it. Yes my receipt will be in the truck glove box, along with any other receipt that pertains to a warranty for the truck. What good would it do if I were out of town, and its in a file in my home Yes there are Walmarts, and Costco's all over this country. Big reason I will purchase from them, or maybe one that has been mentioned.

And here we go again, now its batteries, never asked , just stated where I was going to get a battery . Walmart hasn't worked out for you or your buddy, well I guess that means everyone that gets a Walmart battery its not going to work out for them.

Another thing, no expert on batteries by any means ,but never ,and I repeat never have I bought a battery that failed under warranty, been lucky, It would seem so, or MANY of you do not know how to take care of a battery. If you think I don't know much about the warranty's or date stickers you would be right. Doesn't mean I don't know anything about batteries.

Just so you’ll know. You don’t need any paperwork for warranty on your truck or it’s components. If your within time and mileage it’s covered. No proof of purchase necessary.
I never said you don’t know anything about batteries. I just thought you wanted an opinion on where to purchase them. I didn’t know you were just posting for something to do.

It is a little strange, but Costco warranty seems to vary by location. I bought mine in NW Washington in Sept and they have a 42 month full replacement warranty. BIL got his in Mesa, Az and they have a 36 month warranty. Maybe because the hotter weather they shortened the warranty?

Are you comparing the same type of battery? It could depend on specific model of battery. Or it could just be that Costco is cutting their warranty back due to the high number of returns. Interstate quality has tanked over the last several years. I bet they're starting to figure this out.

And to the point Henderson made on the battery date code. A relative tried warranting one a few months back and was denied because the date code on the battery was scratched off. He had the receipt in hand and it didn't make a lick. The manager told him from their point of view that battery could be 10 years old and not the one that was purchased there. I'd look long and hard at Costco warranty before purchasing, if nothing else to educate yourself.

All the Interstate batteries at the Washington had the full replacement 42 month warranty. All the Interstate batteries a month later at the Arizona store had the 36 month warranty. Maybe Costco changed there warranty across the board in that time frame. Or it varies by region. I will not be back in Washington until late spring to check. I do know that Arizona heat is harder on batteries than Western Washington.

I do know that 42 months from now, Costco's computer system will know what date I bought them, the model/size, the store that sold them and details of the warranty at the time I purchased them.

I put a Costco battery in my wife's Buick Rainier SUV a few years ago, and a year or two later the gauges and error codes started going crazy. I traced to a battery issue, and they handed me a new battery, not questions asked.

I will throw my $0.02 in this thread. I purchased a new set of Napa 75 Month warranty batteries back in Dec. 2012, for my truck. I am still using that same set of batteries today. They seem to be working with no issues as of now. The voltage reading is between 13.9 and 14.9 when the truck is operating. I have a digital read out from an FM transmitter that shoves the voltage when the truck is being driven. I use this FM transmitter to play music from my phone on the radio. I may have to replace them this year or early next year depending on when they fail. I will simply go back and buy the Napa batteries again.

I think we have been thru this, and no they are not AGM , just lead acid .

As said not an expert. I assume there is also a difference between just a sealed battery ,and AGM , and the lead acid that have to be maintained . My OE are a sealed battery, but apparently NOT an AGM.

I am aware of how my truck warranty works, not what I meant . I keep all receipts pertaining to warranty for ANY aftermarket truck parts I have purchased, I guess I need to be more specific.

I have read enough about batteries to make my own decision on batteries, and the experience I have had with many different brands. I think its been pointed out that a few manufacture batteries under different brand names. Some seem to be high on a Deka battery, does anyone know for sure that a EverStart from Walmart is not the same battery under a different brand name, or the old Kirklands from Costco.

I posted about my batteries because I read more then nought about the poor performance of our OE . I have had at least five years on any OE. As said 7 years on our car.

I dont know who makes Everstart or Kirkland but know Deka is made by EastPenn and are made in the U.S. When I was a field service technician I replaced probably 75-100 batteries a year, mostly Interstate , with Deka and never replaced or warrantied a single Deka that I installed which is why I use them.

This date code thing is getting pretty interesting, just took a look at three different batteries I have. Two kirklands from Costco, got date codes , but nothing scratched out, same with one for my four wheeler date code, and nothing scratched out or marked. So whats stopping me from scratching off whatever I want. Obviously the Kirklands are not even sold at Costco any longer ,so thats kind of a mute point now. But my point who is responsible to mark those batteries when purchased , I would thing the seller would do that before they leave the store. Anything else would not make much sense.

Regardless of where bought online or where ever, the vendor should be marking the dates if they are that important. I still contend I would rather take my chances with the receipt in hand, and will do so, and keep it in the truck.

Not sure what there is to educate on the warranty at Costco, here its three years free replacement, and in writing. Same with Walmart 3 years free replacement , with additional 2 years prorated in writing. Is there anything else that is needed ??. I thing the last thing I am too worried about is them honoring a warranty. Time will tell

You might not need to adhere to the warranty procedure but if a manager from there decides to follow it to the letter and your battery isn't stamped you are SOL. Hence my advice to educate yourself.

Proof of purchase is required for all claims. This limited warranty is void if the date coding on the battery is removed or destroyed. If more than one date is indicated, computation will be made using the earliest date indicated.

So you are saying that you need a valid stamped battery, and the receipt. I buy the receipt, who cares about the stamp , if it was not scratched on the apporiate month ,and year, anyone can do that to match the receipt . Thats what I was trying to tell you, I have three batteries that those labels or stamps as you call them are not scratched out when purchased .

Yes I have read these warranty's both Costco ,and Walmart .

Good lord man, yes I read it ,did you even bother to read anyones replies. I got THREE BATTERIES that have a valid date coding on them ,white sticker with circles to scratch out for year ,and month that are cleaned ,and UNMARKED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
