how to remove 6in blocks on 3/4 tons

air lift

Have been storing the 5th wheel longer lately. Decided to get a battery disconnect switch. I got a knife switch. When I got home and actually read the instructions, I found it was made to connect to the negative battery terminal. I would have thought it best to cut the + side. Although I got the switch at an RV place, the instructions don't mention RV's and read like it was intended for auto theft and battery drain.

It is a battery mount sw with an "Accessory Post" which will work if you want to cut off the - side.

Is this what I want to use?

Thanks,

Mike

It should work if it is rated for the load. I installed one on mine that I got at Wal-Mart, I believe it is a negative side also, it has a knob that you loosen to disconnect, about $4. 00 where they want about four or five times that much for one elsewhere. bg

Thanks B G, I paid the X4 elsewhere. I suppose they just dont want the + volts hanging on the end of that switch blade. Just seemed backwards.

Thanks again, it's going in.

The Batt. disconnect that came on my new Open Range 5er is on the Pos side. I don't think it's critical which terminal is disconnected as long as current flow is curtailed. The switch is a enclosed unit similar to those sold at Harbor Freight and Wally World.

It isn't going to make ANY difference which side you switch. You have to have both connected to complete the circuit. Only one connected is the same as not having either connected.

Thanks all, B. G. Smith the switch it is rated at 250 amps continuous and 750 surge.

Danavilla, thats what I thought, it should be on the Pos side. But the switch is made to connect to the smaller Neg side battery post. The instructions say to use the Neg post. It appears to be brass so I didnt try to open it to try to put it on the Pos post.

TN you are right, it just didnt sound right to me.

I should have come here first, would have saved me about $15.

Thanks for all your replies. The switch is in and working with 2 new batterys, and I am a happy camper.

Thanks again,

Mike

All the new equipment at work with a battery disconnect on it, has it in the negative circuit.

Some of the older stuff has it on the positive side, but a PO may have done that.
