Attention: TDR Forum Junkies I am wanting to get out on my own this spring/summer (I'm 21 and live with the folks). I am hoping to be able to qualify for one of those beginning farmer loans. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these. If you have I have a few questions
1. I have a full time job. I would like to work full time at least until the loan is paid off. The plan is to raise mostly hay and some row crops, and raise a manageable amount of cattle. Can you get by working a job with this time of loan?
2. Is it hard to get one of these if you are a first generation farmer? I've been helping friends on their farms since I've been old enough to.
If there's anything else I need to know going into the loan office, let me know.
