Best bug deflector

I am adding some custom items to my 12 ram. I have mud flaps, weather tech vent visors, bed caps, spray in liner and tinted windows. I was wondering which bug deflector you guys like the best for the 4th gens? I always had lund 3 peice on the 2 2nd gens I owned and like them. Looking for one that protects the whole hood (goes down the side and out toward the headlights) Doesn't need to be chrome anything but want it dark smoke in color. Also not looking for one that uses 3M tape to stick on. Want one that screws one.

I originally wanted the screw on type also as that is what I believed it. Thought the 3M ones were weak and would fall off. Well, I couldn't find one that looked right (and the screw-on ones i previously owned sat away from from the hood, would vibrate, and honestly didn't look that good).

I finally folded and purchased a molded guard that matches the hood perfectly. Yes - it uses 3M tape. So far I'm very pleased with it and really like how from far away you can't tell it has a bug shield. I'll grab a picture later today if interested.

I have a Stampede Vigilante Chrome Bug Shield on our 2014 which I like very much. On my truck model / year, it's held on by existing factory fasteners (no drill) along with a couple of small pieces of optional double-sided adhesive foam tape for added stability. There's no vibration and it doesn't touch the hood so no risk of abrasion. Since it sits slightly in front of the hood, I'm able to clean behind it... which I like.

Looks like a very nice alternative to the OEM MOPAR version.

I like that one. The mopar one just seems cheap. I was wanting one in smoke but the chrome looks good

JohnL, do you find the 'deflector' actually deflects bugs or is it more for 'decoration'? I like the looks of yours and will consider getting one if it actually helps keep bugs off the windshield. Thanks

Overall it has a minimal effect on keeping bugs off the windshield. While it may help reduce impact by small bugs like mosquitos, gnats, flies, etc., the the big ones will still get through.

What it does do well is protect the hood from rock, sand, and gravel dings.

3.5 years and 65K the front of the hood on my 11 Dually I just traded in still looked good without a bug deflector. Personally think they are a waste unless you just like the look.

Has anyone see any vibration of the mirrors. That was a big problem with the 98.5s? I do like the looks of the mopar one.

I thought the same as you until a rock dented my hood on my '13. As soon my '14 got home I installed the bug shield ... errr ... stone guard. HA!

Seriously though. I had a bug deflector on my Cheby Suburban that was marketed as a bug 'deflector'. I don't think it did a thing for bug control as my windshield got just as nasty after the install.

Perhaps you've not spent much seat time on the roads of southern and southeastern KY where log trucks, gravel trucks, and particularly coal trucks are rampant...

The way the leading edge of out hoods are shaped they work as a bug deflector. The only thing adding one does is protect the paint. Large bugs will always find the wind shield small ones and snow get blown up and over.

Yup. Get some clear 3M film and apply to the front of the hood.
