Here is my trans cooler... just need to tidy up the wiring a little.

Notice the huge lines.

The fan blows down. I don't see the heat from the muffler being a problem during driving. The muffler is behind the cooler so the heat will be blown back. I cut the front line on the trans with one of those mini pipe cutters and installed the supplied fittings. I'll post a pic later.

I did the lines like this. I cut that steel line with a small tube cutter and turned the tube connected to the trans the other way.

Greetings Yo Hoot;

Looks like the Derale unit I'm getting installed in 2 weeks.

Your location looks logical. How did you arrive at that decision? Off Roader's advice?

Think Wisconsin Winter Salt will kill it? I think the 185 Deg. thermostat is too low, as I normally see 180-190 when hauling our 15K# 5th wheel. Edumicate me man! Thanks.

I'm in a winter salt region myself. As to if it will hold up only time will tell. It's been through one of our roughest winters on record with over 100 inches last year. I came up with the location myself. I didn't want to add another heat creator up front. There's already too much in front of the radiator adding heat to the stack. It just seemed like an easy install and well protected. The stat temp was recommended by Dave Georend. The whole point is to getahead of the heating ramp so the 5 deg sooner the better.

Thanks for quick reply. Local diesel shop that caters to pullers & racers, suggested under the (cargo) box. Think that's better, worse or??

I have the train horns up there so that would not have worked for me. It will be protected a little more up there from the salt but not much. There might be a bit less airflow up there too. If you are just using as supplemental I think it will work fine up there.

transmission aux cooler

If it's not too late for a reply, I'm getting the following installed in 2 weeks, to help prevent > 220 deg. transmission temp. when pulling RV uphill in stop-go traffic during an 89 deg. day:

DERALE Remote Mounted "Hyper Extreme" Transmission Fluid Cooler w/integral 15" weather sealed fan, P/N 15870 $329; 180/165 Deg. Fan thermostat P/N 15721 $25; 180 deg. (Winter) bypass valve w/brkt P/N 25792 $60; Parker lines with PuskLok fittings $? & 2 stopcock isolation valves $?.

to YO HOOT what size are the cooler lines that you cut so i can find the right size cooler, i plan on getting the same part number cooler that you have to help my truck out when towing my trailer's that i tow

An old thread, but did you ever get it figured out? It seems by reading it that added cooling is a bandaid for another issue.

the rason i want to put one of thses on is to help out cooling when towing my rv trailer the temp's get about 205 to 215 when the out side temp's are around 90.
just every day driveing it only get about 170 to 180

I'm with AH64ID on this one. Something does add up on why the OP's temps were that high. BLoging, everything sounds normal in your case unless that is steady speed cruising down the highway when towing.

At steady speeds unloaded in the summer I am always around 40-50°F higher than ambient temp. In stop and go traffic I have seen it as high as 210-220°F. I have zero worries with those temps. ATF+4 can handle it with ease.

This pic was taken back in Aug towing a little over 20k in combined in O. D. thru Texas with outside temps 104-106°F @ 65mph. It would climb as high as 220°F in slower or stop and go traffic when the TC wasn't locked. As soon as it locked the temps would drop. My temp probe is located on the cooler line.

Goerend sent me a new trans. I can still get this one hot while towing on the converter. Just picked up a Westac dual temp guge. I'm putting a sensor in the pan so now I can monitor pan and TC out line temps at the same time.

The Derale kit is 15950 with -8AN 1/2" line

thank you to YO HOOT for the part number on the kit! i was thinking that mite be the part number but i was not sure if the fitting would go into the hard line like in your picture's. so thank you for the infomation now i can get the right kit wit the right size fitting's.
