On-board air on my Dual Sport

I think the motor in my frigidaire front load is going out. The unit is going on 8 years old. I am wondering if it's worth putting any money into it. Any of you guys have an opinion on what's a good brand these days?

We just got a set (7 months ago) Whirlpool Duos and they have been an awesome set. Whirlpool imho has been nothing shy of exelent. Matag Neptune series are nightmares , and Ge is decent.

Don't go with Maytag. We bought a washer two years ago and got rid of it 12 months later when it started leaking. It was the worst washer I have ever used. Left the clothes extremely wrinkled and didn't do a good job cleaning.

Fisher and Paykel were recommended, so I bought the washer. It is a DC drive with no transmission. Very quiet and does a great job washing clothes. Purchased it at Lowes. I would buy another with no reservations at all. It also has a stainless steel tub. Take a look at them.

We bought a set of the Whirlpool duos about 5 months back and love them. The front load washers will almost have the clothes dry when cycle is complete. They spin at about 110,000,000 rpm. Make sure your floor is solid enough for the washer. The high speed spin cycle could shake a mobile home off the foundation. If our washer sinces vibration it will stop and very slowly retumble the clothes to correct balance during the spin cycle.

I think they are made in Germany. Check out the energy cost of electric vs. gas dryers. I have used gas dryers since 1987.

Tim, is Ashlynn putting thme to the test ?

LOL ask Signal about friday and you'll know :-laf

Ours is a top loader. The xl capacity sure is nice! You can dump 3 baskets full in there and pull the trigger. With the nuke-cycle it sounds like a super Phat Shaft spooling up.

Yep I fired upon that real quickly before. When I was in property management we exclusively used whirlpool for a few reasons. One of which is the way they make damn near all of their equipment. No leaks (Exept for the waste water pump. But that is designed to leak to alert of wear over failure)

My inlaws bought the ever lovin top of the line neptune series. After 2 weeks the drum seal failed. . . replaced it and it lasted a month. 2 control boards , one transmission, two burner assy's later and they are g o n e gone. That was in a period of 7 years . . 7 mind you.

My g/f & I bought a new set of LG's front loaders a year ago. The big models, with the steam cycle. No issues so far, they'll wash a metric boatload of laundry, and do a pretty darned good job.

I have always liked Sears Kenmore appliances. They are made by Whirlpool. I like that Sears has a parts department, where you can get service parts for their appliances. Big box stores do not offer that.

I also prefer a gas dryer. They are faster and way more efficient than electric. My washer is still the "old style" top load type and it does an excellent job. Water use is less of a concern for me in the rural area I live, as it comes out of a well, is "borrowed" for use, then goes back into the ground through a septic tank. I would rather have an appliance that WORKS well than one that is "water saver". Same goes for a dish washer.

We've had our Whirlpool Duet front loader almost 3 years with no problems. Just pack that thing full and walk away. With 5 of us, it does not get much of a break.

I was kind of (and kind of not) surprised to see this model was built in Germany.

My house came with a washer and dryer. They are probably as old as I am. Old Kennmore units. My parents owned the same model washer and dryer when I grew up, but those died a LONG time ago.

Mine still work great. :D

We bought a Sears Kenmore HE-4 front loader with the matching electric dryer 15 months ago for our new house. No problems yet and my wife loves the large capacity, the way it cleans so much better than our old Kenmore top loader, uses much less water and electricity, and is very quiet. It was a Consumer Reports Magazine "Best Buy" at the time.

Be sure to look at the Revolutionary SAMSUNG!!!!

Honest - way out in front IMO..... Silver Technology and Balance Beeds - NO VIBRATION!!!!!

IMO - you make a HUGE MISTAKE if you don't look at these - they offer what NOBODY else does at this time - they are the CUTTING EDGE - and not on GIMMICKS... .....

LOWES has these... ... ... ...

NO HOT WATER!!!!!!!!

SAMSUNG SAMSUNG Laundry Featuring SilverCareâ„¢ Technology

Here's how it works: A grapefruit-sized device alongside the tub uses electrical currents to nano-shave two silver plates the size of large chewing gum sticks. The resulting positively charged silver atoms - Silver ions (Ag+) -- are injected into the tub during the wash cycle. According to tests, this process removed or killed 99. 9% of odor-causing bacteria.

"Think of Samsung's SilverCareTM Technology as an advanced energy-saving washer with superb microbe killing capabilities," says Jeffrey Armstrong, Samsung's Sr. Marketing Manager for Laundry. "Then imagine over 100 quadrillion silver ions dissolved in water to make a super cleaning solution. Also, gentler on clothes compared to hot water sanitization, Silver Care™ sanitization helps keep your clothes looking their best. "

Samsung's SilverCareTM sanitization process provides a 92% energy savings over hot water sanitization. Extra delicates such as blouses, shirts, or even lingerie can now be sanitized effectively in cold water without the harsh effects of hot water sanitization. And skin testing has shown SilverCareTM-washed clothing to be hypo-allergenic. The SilverCareTM silver plates carry a warranty of ten years, and can easily be replaced by a Service Technician if so needed.

SAMSUNG SAMSUNG New VRT Front Loading Laundry Machine Turns Cleaning Clothes Into A Quiet Affair

LAS VEGAS - May 8, 2007 - Samsung Electronics, an innovator in home appliances, combines "style, stealth, and substance" with its new VRT™ Front Loading Washing Machine. The VRT washer features a Samsung technological breakthrough called Vibration Reduction Technology that reduces the vibration and noise from unbalanced loads during the spin cycle of conventional front-loading washers. The quietest washer with unbalanced loads, it will operate quieter on the second floor or near closets where consumers need it most. The new VRT Washing Machine can be seen at Samsung's booth (#C5613) at the 2007 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (K/BIS), May 8-10 in Las Vegas.

Yes, soap and bleach are great for cleaning clothes, but they also need hot water and can damage certain fabrics. The Samsung 3. 8 Cu. Ft. 12-Cycle SilverCare Washer ($1100) can still get your clothes clean and disinfected, but it uses silver ions instead of harsh chemicals and hot water. This is pretty crazy stuff, so here's what Samsung's site had to say about it: "Metallic silver atoms, electrolytically stripped of an electron, are injected during the wash and rinse cycles, allowing over 100 quadrillion silver ions to sanitize clothing without the need for hot water or bleach. " Yeah. We always hated chemistry.

Ditto on staying away from maytag neptune, its trouble waiting to happen. Personaly I like my kenmore, its an older one I dont think is made anymore. Is supposed to be next thing to buying commercial duty.

So the samsung eliminates 99. 9% of the bacteria, but does it actually wash the clothes too?

I bought new maytags in 2000 (top loading washer, electric dryer), have 7 people in our house (5 kids under age 10), live on a farm, and they both run constantly all day long. We use them so much I bought another pair so I can hook them up next to the first pair and run them all at the same time:eek:

I had trouble with the dryer once (a quick trip to the garage and one flat washer later it was working again).

I've had the washer apart once to replace the drum roller bearings, put a belt and drum wearing pads in while I was there.

Can't complain for the amount of use I've gotten out of them. :)

I just got the ole frigidaire runnin. I priced the motor it was only 89 bucks, I was exspecting 150 at least. I am still wondering how much longer this thing will last. They don't make them like they use to.

Consumer Reports tested the Samsung. Acording to them, considering the expense of the Samsung machine, the Kenmore HE2 was a much better buy and did just as well cleaning clothes.
