I also had a professional coating applied with a new windshield. They guaranteed it would be great snd would clean it off if I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it. They cleaned off but it didn’t come off and they replaced the windshield. Back then I used either Trico or Tridon US Made wipers with great results and always a new set with new windshield.

Don’t think many use their windshields like me. Literally a million miles commuting in NW WA and half the miles in the dark.
I think the coating was made by PPG.

So much for the argument of proper application. I’m sure the coatings Dre fine for the average user but my use was not average!!!

I currently have the Bosch Icon. I've liked them in the past but they are streaking already after only 2ish months of use.

Has anyone tried the Scrubblade wipers available on Geno's? I'm tempted to try them out but had already placed an order the day before so I figured I'd hold off for now.

Have used them on pickup and big truck. Work well. Single blade might be “cleaner”, but these are better with massive amounts of washer fluid to get visibility back (like hitting a swarm of killer bees).

Complete opposite WA experience for me. Dark driving in western Washington is where rain-x shines, wipers don’t even need to be used most the it’s raining or misting. It’s where I learned about rain-x and hate driving without it. So….. I’m sticking to improper application. Just because it was professionally applied doesn’t mean it was properly applied. :D

I saw where youtuber Project Farm did a wiper comparison and thus bought Bosch Icons. So far I think they are best ones I have put on the truck, but will see how they hold up over time.

I'm pretty picky about windshield cleanliness....I think it can be attributed to being blind in one eye. First and foremost, I prefer frameless blades.....and at my local Walmart that usually means RainX. It also means I usually change them about every six months on a daily driver.

Who could forget these bad boys from the 80s?

Right on, thanks for the response. I figured it would be best for a really dirty windshield.

Did you put on a million miles commuting? No matter my experience it’s always wrong in some way with you.

PPG coating was professionally applied by Louis Auto glass that has been around basically forever.

I don’t like coatings plain and simple so why do you constantly try to discredit my experience? You like it that’s great so leave it at that.

Just pointing out how opposite the experiences are with the same ambient conditions, it’s that’s simple.

Do you remember if this was the PPG stuff? I’d never heard of it, but it has a wide array of applications.

Don't think so. It was at least 25 years ago. They had training on how to apply the product to be able to sell it. Once it was on it didn't come off!

I have had virtually all my windshields since 1980 installed by this company. It was a few years later I noticed they did not sell that option any longer.

"Just pointing out how opposite the experiences are" Not good service out of Michelins on my sig truck or Honda Accord

To be fair the Michelins are fairly new. Its possible I may end up going back to MOPAR. Good part of buying at Costco is if I don’t like them I get my money back.

I believe they also had a Goodyear brand prior to the Michelins , I’ve run both on truck , and car . Running the Michelins now on both . As said in previous post , whatever Costco is selling at the time . I’m done with expensive wiper blades , rubber goes to hell on all of them . I think the Costco blades are what $20 a pair . I’ve gotten good service out of them , and usually replace every 2-3 years . What I have noticed out of these from Costco is they usually keep working well , but start to get noisy , that’s when I replace , not because they are not cleaning the windshield.

What I've found out too is cleaning the windshield with a vinegar mix and a Magic Eraser removes water marks and irregularities.
Bone dry 4-aught steel wool works good too. Wash the window with soap and water, wait for it to completely dry, and polish with the steel wool. Clean glass makes a huge difference.

Not to beat a rain-x dead horse, but this thread came to mind several times last week while I was on vacation in Hawaii.

We flew into Kona Friday afternoon and by the time we got on the road to the Hilo, wet, side it was nearly dark. As we crested the summit of saddle road it started to mist/rain/fog. The rental was a ‘22 Jeep JL with 20K miles and likely the OE wiper blades and just water in the washer fluid tank. If it was raining or we were within 1/2 mile of anyone ahead of us it was bad, really bad. The mist/rain was just a schmear of water like I would get living in western Washington. Luckily it was only 20-30 minutes of wet road and precip.

The next morning my first stop was for rain-x washer fluid and rain-x water repellant. I ran the water out of the washer fluid tank, topped it off with rain-x fluid, and applied the rain-x to the windshield. We spent 4 more days in the rain/mist/precip in both the dark and daylight, conditions that were worse than the first night. Even on the 2 year old blades the visibility was so much better. The wipers need to be used a fraction as much and when they are used the windshield clears instantly with one wipe for both mist and rain without leaving any of the blinding light refractions that are present on a bare windshield. When there is decent airflow over the windshield, even the flat Jeep ones, the wipers rarely need to be used after dark.

Just cant say enough good things about properly applied rain-x and its safety enhancement.

And it’s not the windshield. It’s the side glass and mirrors that really matter as even bad wipers do something.
