Got an EZ a few months ago and wanting more power. However, I will not be doing transmission mods, as $3k is simply far too much for a mod, IMO. Love to do it, but just not reasonable. So... . my questions is... is there anything else I can do with the EZ? What about getting DDIIs and taking off the EZ? What kind of difference would there be? I don't tow at this time. Thanks for any help!

First off transmission mods are not $3k, a whloe new transmission is. You can buy a torque converter, and valve body for less. Unless you looking to make around 400-550hp on a daily basis, that is all you will need.

But for now, DD2's will kill your transmission. DD1's it can stand though, just not with the EZ.

Forget it,your maxed out now,go ahead and put dd2's in,and your transmission will be fried within a month. The stock line pressures, and lockup simply cannot hold the torque of any more power than what you have. If you wanna play you gotta pay,if you cant afford the trans work, how you going to afford to fix it when it breaks? My advice,Stay on the porch until you've got the $ to run with the big dogs.

ive seen auto's smoked with an ez and 275's, My opinion is that if you bomb, it's not a question of "if the transmission goes" only "when it goes", do some research, im pretty sure you can get a good vb and tc for way less than 3K

TC and VB from one of the "big 3" is gonna be well over $2K installed, likely approaching $2500. Dawg has a point on that one.

Dawg, one thing you can do is make power with injectors and pull the EZ. Injectors will not make the big power down low by themselves. The massive torque down low is what kills trannies. You can run just DD2's and if you use your head you might be able to get away with DD3's with the stock VB maxed out for pressures. Also keep in mind that some trannies last longer than others, if you got a weaker one it will die quicker than a tougher one. That is the real unknown in the whole equation.

You can run DD3's and an EZ with just a VB, $400 appx plus installation. You could do a shift kit and get the same holding power too, but installs are tricky. If you just do a VB you will make a lot of heat in the transmission when unlocked. The stock lockup clutch will hold a lot more power than it is given credit for when it is applied with enough pressure. You have alternatives other than "the whole banana". You need to be ready for consequences though over about 300 RWHP, not only the transmission, in my opinion. Hope this helps.
