Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost Leaks

I think I am loosing boost. I built a PVC and hose connector for the inlet to the trubo. When I put it on I cannot build up any pressure. Should it hold pressure? I was thinking if the exhaust valves were open the air would right out the exhaust. Can anyone tell me how they did it?

Bump the starter a few times... yeah, you should be able to pressurize the system. Be careful, I blew the apparatus off the turbo, and punctured my oil filter(3rd gen).

Wouldn't it be easier to remove the hose at the intake horn and cap it off? Then there would be no question where the leak is at.

Good Idea. Just finished trying my setup again. I would get about 10 lbs that would leak off very quickly. Kept trying to get more and the apparatus blew off, didn't get the filter but did get my attention. I spent the next hour tightening every bolt I could find on the intake mainfold and exhaust just for good measure. I think it helped some, I can now get 32 lbs of boost, was only getting 29. When I first put the BD B turbo on and loaded up the edge comp and smarty I would get close to forty so something is wrong. I am also having Torque convertor problems so maybe I should start there. It is a low stall BD but not made for the HP I am pushing now. It will be changed when money allows. Then duel turbos... ... ... .....

If that were the case, your intake valves would have to be open on the same cylinders...

I have thought that also, I guess it is possible if scavenging is taking place. I don't know what the overlap is but I am pretty sure there is a short period of time when both exhaust and intake valves are open to scavenge (I think that is the right term) the exhaust gases from the cylinder.



Going to tear it all down and check everything. Don't know how much the intake manifold gasket is. The hoses are the after-market good ones but they are four of five years old now. Hoping to have the money saved soon.



My son MXShawn just joined by the way. He is leaving for Montana tomorrow to pick up his new 2003 Cummins Powered, six speed manual, with the big four doors. The little Bas%^ is gettin one nicer than mine. To think he almost bought a Ford with a power-joke in it. I think he found a good one. Bought it from a fellow TDR member. Sounds like he took care of it.
