Bought the Sprinter !!!

Well, I picked up the Sprinter Van, by Freightliner, Today.



It GVWR is 8,550. It's tare is 4,200 lbs. I can haul a solid 2 tons in it.



In an earlier post, when I had test drove it, I posted about the 30 MPGs' I got. No wonder, it weighs about 1/2 of my Ram 3500.



I paid 27,600 for it. $577 per month for 5 years.



The fuel savings will be a solid 50% over running the Ram.

(30 mpgs. Vs. 20 mpgs. )



I figure, It pays for itself just in fuel savings

As soon as I find someone that knows about Mecedes 5 Cyl Diesels with a VGT turbo, and EGR, and common Rail Fuel injection.

30 mpg? Man, I want to believe it, but I keep thinking you must have had a tailwind or something. Please give us some more user reports in a few weeks! (I'd love to make a camper out of one of these, and anything steadily over 20 mpg would still be impressive considering the size and capability)

Believe it man!!

30 mpg is a reality. I ran to michigan and back. nearly 650 miles all told. Loaded up , empty back. 65 mph.



Their literature says 22mpgs in town. 30 highway is a reality

Go to a Freighliner Dealer. Soon the Dodge Dealers will be selling them. This van is a replacement for the full size dodge vans.



They come as a cargo, and as a passenger.

I just saw one last week in our parking lot. . it was a UPS van.

How does the van handle the weight?? ie brakes and suspension?? How much weight have you carried with it?? What kind of trans do you have with it, and what kinds of trans are available?? Not that I would ever want a gas engine, but are they offered with a gas engine, Now why in the hell can't they stick that engine you have in a mid size SUV like a durango.

the idea of a passenger sprinter scares me, a soccer mom driving a freightliner!

It comes with a 5 speed automatic, only choice as of now; and a 5 cylinder Mercedes turbosiesel, only engine available as of now.



I have has 4,000 lbs on the demo van, not on this one yet. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, and traction control.



As far as this engine/trans combo in a Durango, I'd buy it right now!!

The Sprinter looks great. They have three types of 4wd in Europe: Part time, part time with low range, and AWD. The Sprintshift auto-manual also looks very interesting (Europe). I have tried to get some in depth information concerning the OM 612 DELA five cylinder diesel engine. It appears to be derived from the MB automobile line of diesels. The minimum size MB truck engine appears to be the 900 series. Has anyone found what the distance to overhaul for this engine is? Great mileage is less than wonderful if the engine won't last.
