Since new, after applying the brakes and then easing off(not completely),it takes at least twice as much effort to get the same amount of stopping power when I immediately re-apply them. It is pretty dangerous. What could be the problem? Is it the booster or what ever it is called? Has anyone else heard of this? I would like to know the direction to stear the dealer when I take it in. Thanks

You shouldnt have to stear the dealer on a brake problem, unless they cannot fix it right the first time. since it is a safety issue, they will probably try to fix it right away. Just pick a dealership you feel comfortable with to do the work. Dont think they are all stupid, unless they prove otherwise. good luck

Are the 2001's back to vacuum power assist? I thought they did away with the vacuum assist and when to the hydra-boost system in 1998.

Salvo, this is my first post so please bear with me. I am experiencing the exact same problem that you are. It almost seems that when braking pressure is momentarally removed ever so slightly, that the hydraulic pressure assist just goes away and you are left with manual brakes. However, a FULL brake release then re-apply will correct problem. I noticed that on my truck, the initial stop must be fairly sudden/hard for this problem to occur. I have spoken to a friend at the dealer about it and I think I knew more than he did. I'm still going to take it in, since I can duplicate the problem almost at will. Maybe more folks can see if this is happening on their Rams. Definitely a safety issue.
