Broke my Brake Black Box

I was wondering if somebody can tell me what exactly the black box under the drivers side hood hinge is... there is a 4 or 5 wire plug running into it and a vacuum line from the brake booster... I'm kinda figuring that it is some sort of vacuum sensor because since I accidentally broke the fitting off that comes from the brake booster my brake light is staying on... I've tried to seal the fitting with silicone but not a thing changed... the brakes still feel fine, can I just plug the vacuum line and disconnect the plug to keep the brake light off? I did the same thing to mine.

I just disconnected it. Last time my vacuum pump quit I knew long before that light went on anyway, incidentally i broke it when i was trying to test it. coming off the freeway with no power assist sorta gets your attention.

Thanx, I actually managed to put enough goop on the fitting to seal it mostly, the light will flicker a bit upon startup and the goes out... thanx again. .

It's a vacuum sensor. If vacuum drops too low, it'll lite the brake warning light on the dash. You can only buy them from the dealer. No aftermarket support. I've seen them at junkyards already. I don't know if Dodge still makes them or not. Part number is 4428676 and it's called a vacuum warning switch. Used on all 1990-1993 dodge diesels.
