New engine

Its time for bigger turbo & injectors on '06

A new size recently came out for guys who want to run the 4-inch flange. The 4095 is now a better choice than the 4090. It is basically the same but 1 inch longer, giving a little more surface area. It costs about 3 bucks more than the 4090.

Just an FYI.

I agree, CTD12V. My input to this thread has been on track, constructive, accurate, and fair. If others want to constructively add to the thread in a positive way that involves air filtration, that is fair game and I'm all for it!

OK - too many pages and dimensions to keep track of - the 4095 sounds interesting, what are it's dimensions and shape?

OK Gary, to review the 4 models that seem most promising so far.

The 4090 filter has a 4 inch flange, 6 inch dia base, and the filter media is 9 inches tall. It cross-refs to the K&N #RU-0870 filter. It is a round cone.

The 4095 filter has a 4 inch flange, 6. 625 inch dia base, and the filter media is 9. 5 inches tall. It cross-refs to the K&N #RC-4780 filter. It is a round cone.

The 4510 filter has a 4. 5 inch flange, a 9. 250x6. 250 inch oval base, and the filter media is 10 inches tall. It cross-refs to the K&N #RF-1024 filter It is an oval cone.

The 6080 filter has a 6 inch flange, a 7. 5 inch dia base, and the filter media is 8 inches tall. It cross-refs to the K&N RF-1020 filter. It is a round cone.

I was looking at an AFe ProGuard 7 today. That is a big filter. We need a Nanofiber that big. :)

HMMmm - thanks for the update - for sure, I feel better with the larger surfaced filters - and might suggest that guys looking to adapt some of those larger opening filters check out local hardware stores for stovepipe adapters - the 4-to-6 inch sizes are common in stores in this area - and others are available too...

I'm no CFM engineer type, but if a guy was going to use a cone filter with the factory hose on a 2nd gen, and wanted to adapt it up, I think the best choice would be that 4510 oval 4. 5" flange one. The 4090 was part of the original lineup, and at that time it was the best choice. AMSOIL just expanded their line here, and it looks as if there are now some even bigger options. Hopefully they'll make an even larger 6-inch flange one soon.

Yup, some CFM numbers, using proper industry standards sure would be helpful...

Guys,

Quite the thread!

I'm a bit lost though, and could use some direction. I've got an 01 that would benefit from more air, I've got a heat shield, and no problem loosing the factory air box.

Which Amsoil filter best fits the stock air hose? Are we still looking at the EaAU4090, or is there now a better option?

Thanks guys!

Yes, and I looked for almost two hours online and couldn't find an adapter in that size so I ordered the 4091 which has more surface area anyway.

You don't need an adapter for the 4510. Our stock intake hose it 4. 5" at the filter and 4" id at the turbo. I just got a 4510 and made a setup like an old aFe. I used 4. 5" stainless pipe that is welded to my shield. The filter hooks up snug on one end the factory hose the other end... . Works very nice and keeps the filter nice still... ... Marc

Looking online for an adaptor is kinda tough. I prefer the hands on method. Get the filter and bring it to your favorite hardware store, like Menards or Lowes, etc. Play around with PVC parts until you figure out what works.

The 4091 is a good call if you are OK with the offset flange opening. Let's see some pics of your installs!!!

4095

The 4095 cone filter has a closed in, without the secondary inverted filter cone inside the larger outside cone. Instead, there is a hole for mounting your filter minder.

Just an FYI.

I don't see why the 4510 would need any adapting. The stock air box is 4-3/8" OD. The BHAF is 4. 5" OD so I'm guessing here but it seems like a piece of thick wall 4" PVC would have about the perfect OD for this filter or 4. 5" OD exhaust pipe, which I have a piece of. I am currently running the BHAF and I would really love something that I could clean and reuse that is dependable. The BHAF gets expensive. The 4510 looks like the best choice currently and is in the same price range as (Amsoil preferred customer) I'm paying for the BHAF locally. I think I'm going to order one and I will let you all know what I come up with along with some pictures.

Edit: I was looking at the wrong page when I posted this so some of what I said has already been said, sorry.

No apology needed. I always like reassurance... I am not always right, but I know the 4510 worked good for me. I just welded a 4. 5" piece of stainless through a plate then bolted the plate to my homemade shield. Intake clamps on one side, fliter on other... Worked real good. I will post pic when I get my wIfE to take the picture for me... . Thanks, Marc

just got my 4091, now I remember why I don't like the Amsoil corporation. The filter does not have the inverted cone as described on the website, no notes anywhere saying which models do or don't, and my package arrived with all the information for their nutritional (scam) supplements. I will be sending the filter back and going a different route, who else produces nanofiber air filters?

Duluth Diesel,

But I like the layout of the PowerCore the way it's pleated compared to the Cone style filters. I like the double layer type affair instead of just the pleated surface of the cone. Oh well, Beggars can't be choosey.
