Don't everybody bid at once (Ebay)

600HP Street Bike

Anybody here been burned on Ebay, like paid for something and never got it or someone said something was in great condition but it was in fact trash? Horror stories?

I have bought about 70 items and i recieved every one of them. The only time i ever got burned was when i accidently bid $200. 00 more then something was worth thinking nobody would try and outbid me anyhow, WRONG, i paid WAY too much for a magazine. But i blame myself for that. Other then that, its been good. Amazing the stuff you can find on there. i saw a used wooden leg on htere a few weeks back. People will sell ANYTHING it seems.

I worried about this also. I was real cautious for the first couple of times. Everything but one was as advertized. I recently bought a camera tripod that was supposed to be in "like new" condition but found one of the locking screws to be stripped out. I was able to fix it ok so was not a big deal. I think the person I bought it from really thought everthing was ok with it.

I watch who I buy things from. One of the power sellers with lots of positive feedback is pretty safe.

I would be careful purchasing turbos there

I did someone a favor and may end up getting the short end of the stick :(

we shall see... .

I bought a CD ROM drive for a laptop computer, and have sold quite a few items. Always had very good luck. When I am selling, I always specify that I want payment before shipment, but if the buyer has a good track record on e-bay, I send the item before I receive payment. I've sold some exercize and sporting equip. for about 70-80% of what I paid for it new.

Never been burned yet. E-bay's system makes it pretty hard to screw somebody if you ever want to do business on e-bay again.

If someone has a picture with their add, ask if that is the actual item you are bidding on. I was selling a set of wheels for a Grand Cherokee and took a picture of them with a yellow blanket as background. Next day, found a seller that copied my picture to try to sell his wheels. Had to file a fraud complaint with eBay to pull his add. Saw his add about a week later with his own picture. Wheels were dull, scratched, and peeling. Just ask to be on the safe side.

I have bought one item so far on ebay. I collect flashlihgts and found a really neat NOS German military one. (Any of you guys have any old or odd ones?)

The sellers have a rating that you can search that is feedback from the buyers. Yet as B KIRK noted... there will always be some crooked SB that will screw things up. Chris

EBAY

I've been Ebaying for over four years, buying and selling. I've never had a problem with a seller, now buyers thats a whole other story. People will bid on things without thinking then when it's time to pay up you never hear from them again. I do enjoy it though, I've made some nice extra cash and it's fun. The thing to remember is if you have questions about an item is to ask them before you bid. Check me out (jjwitt - ebay user name) I always have something on there.

I got burnt once. Bought speakers, never got them, he kept saying he was going to ship, going to ship. Then the time limits expired where I could do anything about it. I called his phone, he acted like I was talking to the wrong guy, etc.

When selling, I'm always as honest as can be. It may mean selling something for less, but it eliminates the hassles with having a dissappointed buyer.

I sold something recently that was 'pick up only' but the buyer is in FL and has requested for me to deliver it to a freight terminal.

All in all, I'll buy something there first.

I have had good luck with ebay, I've bought lots of stuff. I sold a grand wagoneer on ebay. I got way more than I thought it was worth. Seems this guys wife got drunk and wanted to buy her hubby a b-day gift. turns out she got into a bidding war and didn't notice that the truck was a couple thousand miles away! Hubby and friend flew out and paid by certified check and drove home in a snowstorm. I didn't know about this until he picked the thing up or I would have cut him some slack.

happy ebay buyer

I've always been an happy e-bay buyer (knives and old movie videos). never been a seller. only got upset once as the seller was in the hospital unexpectedly and didn't have a way to let me know, but came through quickly upon release.

I had a seller turn me into eBay as a non-payer, even though I'd sent a payment a month earlier - and he didn't ask me before he turned me in!

He sells a LOT of Jeep parts, and when he finally sent me something, it was the wrong part. And wouldn't cross ship.

I eventually got the right parts, but what a bad time.

I've bought a few things. Only got semi burned once. Bought a set of Swarovski binoculars. When they arrived, they had internal damage so wouldn't focus. Fortunately, Swarovski has a lifetime warranty so they repaired them at no cost except for shipping them to the factory. I've even bought an item from Italy and had great dealings.

I'm a ex-Snap On Tool man [truck guy]... anyway I'm used to having the best tools to work with so I decided to get a road bag built... decided to buy a bunch of used stuff on E-Bay

every thing I have ever purchased was received. . however there are guys who represent their stuff a in new condition when it is actually JUNK... the remarks are that is 100% guaranteed by Snap On [I feel that if ya buy it at auction it's yours and not Snap On issue]. . anyway there is a guy who sells dead blow hammers all the time on Ebay... his stuff is JUNK and from the industrial job he must be the trash man at. . anyway he has pictures of very good used stuff and ships garbage. . yup I got two sizes at once and both went to the trash can on arrival. . I posted about my experience in comments and found out he had been thrown off ebay twice before and resign up with different screen names. . he then started a campaign to discredit me on every auction I bid on... was a hasle. . that was a couple years ago. . don't know if they have fixed the issue for protection there.

I have only been burned one time, sort of. The person I bought the item from didnt like the fact that I won with such a low bid and refused to sell it to me. I was contacted by several others she had done the same to, and we all filed complaints with Ebay and slammed her in her feedback section. Someone would have to be a fool to buy from her again.

I have bought over 20-30 items from Ebay and had only this one bad experience.

When you buy, check the feedback first, before you bid.

Have bought 50 or so items. Find most all to be truthful. Only bad one was really my fault. While new to ebay bought a big chain hoist for $25. Really good price. I did'nt check shipping prior to auction close. Shipping was exorbitant. . It should have been around $30 to ship which was OK. But this guy wanted $150 to ship and it was obvious he was trying to make up his money in shipping. I told him to keep the thing. I paid him his $25 and told him to sell it again. I check shipping pretty close now.

Most on Ebay are straight - but there are always the "few"
