As I said to each his/her own. I do agree with you that it is BS for people to preach one thing to the masses and do differently. Again I am no tree hugger and I think that many get way too carried away and agree on that. I like my truck and I do want to bomb it a bit, but I dont want to look like a coal burning freight train doing it. I bought this truck so I could have a grunty reasonably efficient truck. I dont know if it is reasonable to apply future emmisions laws to cars and trucks that are already on the road. Was it pre 97 that would not be included? Could you be tested for the emissions laws that were current when your truck was built? There are people out there that want their truck to smoke. While living in Key West I came back to the beach after windsurfing to find a crew cab dually powerstroke just sitting there revving up and watching the smoke. Not going anywhere just sitting there thinking it was cool. Whats the point? Yes I know that is just one example. Don't worry I have no desire to live in Texas, there is some good bbq.

Andy,

I don't see anything that I disagree with in your post above and you and the beliefs expressed above are welcome in TX as far as I'm concerned.

all of the toxins that we pour into our goldfish bowl have a negative affect on us. all of the pills, medical miracles will not save us from the consequences. it's our choices that determine the health and well being of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren

True to a point. Its not proven that it is "our" choices that matter.

Events of nature such as the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic eruption near the former USAF Clark AFB in the Philippines back in the late 1980s or early 1990s created more pollution in a day or two than man can create in many years.

Some amount of atmospheric pollution is real and may be a concern. It's the source of pollution that is arguable.

We the public are constantly bombarded with biased news reporing, "propaganda" in my mind, that tells us of all the harm caused by America, not mankind, and coincidentally all the solutions provided by the same media include giving up all the conveniences our wonderful free market economy has produced and that we enjoy due to the greatest prosperity the world has ever seen.

I don't accept the fundamental premise of liberals that Americans produce all the environmental toxins that cause harm.

I remember back in the 1970s when the same liberals angrily preached about global cooling with the same religious fervor and bogus facts to support their mission. Their goals were identical then as now.

I just wanted to send out an update to all Californian CTD owners on the latest this FINE state has to say about smogging our diesels. Any updates are welcome as it's hard to find some reliable information. The best information seems to come from the BAR site. This thread on the Cumminsforum has an excellent overview. 2010 Diesel Smog Inspection for 1998 and up/under 14,500 GVW Trucks - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

I wonder if this will promote aftermarket exhaust manufacturers to sell str8 piped "cats" that are made to look like cats but are perfectly gutted. :)

I've pasted it below:

Hear is the latest updates from the California BAR.

Hear is what they are testing for:

-Visual Inspection of Smog Components

-OBD II Check with scan tool, "three monitors must run to completion"

-Visual Smoke Check, "most likely at idle and 2500 RPM"

-Probably EVAP (Fuel Cap) Test

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/80_BARRe...les/frame.html

Much of the confusion on GVW has come form the DMV's website, but the BAR website is more accurate as they provide the update training for the smog techs and distribute licences and so on. Slide 6 of the above BAR powerpoint presentation for the Smog techs says 14,500 and under GVW will be tested? The DMV website below is wrong in stating less than 8501 lbs:

Vehicle Registration for 2008

Colorado is said to be doing the same thing along with other Green states like NY and so on. Just look at the retrofitting for the Big Rigs! Every state that currently smogs gas cars will eventually smog Diesels. It looks like I need to move to Hawaii or Montana

Don't take this personally, but thank you! I wish more people would leave California. In fact, I used to have a bumper sticker that said:

Tourists Go Home, But Leave your Daughter!

Actually my youngest daughter does still live there :-laf, I am sorry to say. I hate going there to visit her. The roads suck, the state is run by idots, the taxes are to high, CARB is stupid and run by more idots, and I am sure I can could think of more things! You can have the place, enjoy it as long as you can until the illegals take over.

I read your bumper sticker and followed your advice. I left. Myself and millions of productive former Californians along with me. There has been a mass exodus leaving the state since back in the 1980s. Productive citizens, companies, jobs, they've been bailing out since before I lived there in the mid-80s. During various periods Californians have moved to WA, OR, NV, AZ, central TX, and all over the US in smaller numbers.

Before long you'll only have illegal immigrants on welfare, government employees, and goofy liberals. Good luck on solving your budget problems.

Some parts of it are beautiful though. San Diego is a beautiful city. I still enjoy visiting but your state is becoming so financially desperate I am reluctant to visit any longer. I fear that anyone who visits is at risk of being robbed by some form of law enforcement effort to separate us from our wallets.

Come visit Harvey,it's still a beautiful city! We need tourists like yourself who work for their money to come and enjoy our beaches, mts. ,the Zoo,Wild Animal Park,Sea World and of course, a wonderful,bug-free climate. Just avoid May and June as we suffer from the infamous "gloom".

Thanks for the invitation. I'll be back. It's hard to stay away from SD. I never get enough of the view from the bridge over SD Bay to Coronado.

I just moved to CO from CA and was surprised to learn that I had to smog my CTD to register it. In CA it was not required, so for 2010 they are just catching up. I initially found CO (Denver area) even more strict that CA.

Not hard to pass in CO however. You just need to take off any tuners that will create too much smoke. They are not looking at hard parts. I would imagine that in CA they will have a visual check for hard parts too. That's the real bummer about smog in CA. Even if you can pass at the pipe and the ECM scan, you still have to change hard parts if they are not "certified"... just a scam by CARB and does NOTHING to clean up the environment.

I've spent many years in CA working around that system so I could enjoy my hot rods.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this post was started to be a comprehensive source of information related to the smog issue next year, NOT a political discussion of logistics!!

LETS STAY ON TOPIC!!!

HB

I moved to Wa St back in 2000,for a project with my Co I work for, (Oil Industry). They offered me a permanent job but it didnt pay near the money I make in Ca.....

One could argue that the price of living is less there, no income taxes and so on. But the base salary would have killed my retirement. I have nine years to go at which time I will be going back;), to Washington State. Im there every summer for five weeks.

Every time I crest the grapevine headed south coming home the depression sets in. :{

I hate this state and all the trash that lives here.

By the way, I am a Long Beach native. Born and raised.

So true, just learned today another business close to us is shutting down and moving to Colorado. Been in operation the last 30 years. More tax money lost.

Back in 1968 I helped a friend do a military move from San Diego to Bellflower. Being from down here,I'd never seen smog like that. I coughed for days. One thing that has improved is the air quality due to emission standards. Santa Ana days would send smog down from LA and brownout our skies. That situation has been greatly reduced even with so many more cars on the road. My wife and I hit the traffic in Corona upon returning from Utah in April, thus abruptly reminding us of reality. Luckily down here,it's nowhere near as bad. YET!

You can have it macdaddy(wa. st. )notice the lower case. I have been here since Oct. 1966, I was 11yrs old. My Dad had been hauling bombs out of Gary, IN. to Bremerton, WA.

So we moved from SE Mankato to Spokane, one liberal sewer wasteland to another.

The home I have now lived in, and completely paid for, I cannot afford next year when I retire. The efin taxes and utilities are more than my original mortgage, and the ***+_&%$ democrats in this state are not finished!

This state is as broke as CA, there are enough producers here as of today, to keep washington afloat, But I am one that is leaving, and I am reluctant to say 'where', because you no account, no class, non-believing, lying, leftwing pukes, would try and follow, to live off my efforts, all the while trying to corrupt my beliefs. :D

See what emissions testing does to a person, they really don't care about the atmosphere, it's about the money they can charge you for the mandatory test!

Have you ever lived in TX?

We are free men here. Our government serves us.

Harvey - you've been standing in the sun too long.

Yes I have lived in Texas.

The other 49 states (including TX) will eventually follow CA when the

CA req's become Federal (just like gas did).

CA wasn't the most populous state in the US for a long time.

The thing that screwed CA up is the yo yos from other states that

moved here (your neighbors, and kin).

Pliz take them back.

I haven't seen an answer to one question that was asked a while back. do any of your states check the out of state tourist on their trucks at random checkstops? Or do they only check you guys at the time of registration?

I reside in San Diego and thusfar I've never seen a random checkpoint other than for alcohol or registration(Oceanside). No safety checks, nothing.
