Well I gotta to agree to a point... Have had many discussions on gun control and carrying. Not that this is the thread for it but I live in Canada, own several firearms and can't stand the legislation here... Criminals have all the rights. . I can go to jail for trying to protect my property. .

On the other hand. . the upside is that those too STUPID to own firearms have a real tough time to obtain them legally. (Note the scrots still can get them at will)

There was a case in Detroit where a person found a shotgun and... to find out if it was loaded... pointed it a child and pulled the trigger... Sad thing is... it was loaded. .

Some People Should Never Have Access to Firearms. .

Just splitting a hair!!!

One of these days the big quake will come and California will slide into the Pacific and Arizona will have ocean front property. And all the smog problems will be solved. By the way how are the IOU's in lieu of pay working out for state employees?

I live in California, nice scenery and weather but the politics suck. I'm thinking of moving back to the United States, and Texas and N. Dakota sound like good spots.

Rent your house out and see how you do with winter and summer away from here before doing anything permanent. My sister moved thirty years ago to Oregon and Wa state. She especially loved the attitude of the Oregon folks but admits the weather does suck half the year between seasons. It's nice to get away from here, but returning to a mild climate is pretty fine. Everything's a tradeoff.

If you are a conservative as I assume you are (if you were a nutcase liberal you'd love KA) you are welcome to Texas. Try it you'll like it.

I sold my home in San Diego and left for Texas in 1988 after retiring from the Navy there a year earlier. SD is a beautiful city but I didn't like what was happening there 21 years ago and it has only gotten worse, much worse, since.

If you own a wildly appreciated home in SoCal and can sell it to an illegal immigrant with drug money, welfare, food stamps, SSI, housing assistance, free healthcare, and nobama handouts for first time home buyers you can buy a lot nicer home for much less money in Texas.

Conservatism still rules here.

Here in Georgia, we have majority conservative politicians. We are actually the "reddest" of the "red" states. There is smog testing in Atlanta, but only for gassers. I am nowhere near Atlanta, thank God. It is Georgia's socialist cesspool, but still "conservative" compared to many large cities. I also read somewhere that Georgia has one of the highest percentages of diesel vehicles in the country and we are one of the highest users of diesel fuel, both on road and off road. I would say close to 90% of the fuel stations have diesel and several more have been converted to include diesel recently.

I have the capability to fog out an intersection with my '96, but it has been a LONG time since I have done that. Occasionally, I do "play" a little in the rural areas, but I do not want to give a bad reputation about the passion I have. I like to point out the good points of diesel power, not advertise the bad points by senseless smoke shows. Not to say I "never" fog out a well deserving arsehole with a ghetto boomer radio or a little rice rocket that thinks he has something under the hood because he has a fart can exhaust and a K&N air filter! :-laf

Texas has my kind of attitude and politics but I'm a weather wimp. I've lived by the ocean my whole life and just got back from surfing. As I type,I'm sitting in shorts and flip-flops. The wife and I are going camping @ Mt Palomar soon which is 1. 5 hrs. away. We can always escape the city life, but can come back to a nearly paid off home five miles from the Pacific Ocean. I do miss the more rural lifestyle and emphasis on personal responsibility we had here growing up.

"We are free men here. Our government serves us"

Now that is a beautiful statement. If only we could say that about the other states.

Always loved Texas, lived there as a child, visit there often.

Hmmmm, I wonder if it is just a coincidence that the "reddest of red states" has a booming economy with hundreds, perhaps thousands of new businesses including some big-name major manufacturers with high employment (not unemployment), good-paying jobs, and a growing population? Also a very large black population which is apparently fully integrated into the economic progress of the state.

I guess it would not be appropriate to take this conversation any farther into the political arena but most can grasp my point!
