Try Diesel Dynamics. They tout their cams as new, not reground stockers. I know, they may not have one that is 1st Gen specific, but a 12 valve is a 12 valve; it should be an improvement over stock, either way.

The 2nd gen camshaft won't work in the 1st gen engine properly. Different lift/duration/overlap. Been there done that.
That might help you decide CB.

Shows what I know. So, Mark, what is the difference? Or a betterwording may be, what effect do the differences have from 1st to 2nd Gen? I thought the 12 valve engines were similar in build, just different fuel systems, and slight changes to the cam and flow. Or is similar not close enough? If I were to get a newer head (94+ to replace my cracked one), would I need a new cam to go with it? Or would it not make much difference with a VE pump? Would the 94-98 style head even work? I'm![]()
as he!! on this one. Most stuff I can figure out, but you got me all jumbled up now. Thanks a lot
