I just bought a 2004. 5 with the 6spd transmission. Since we travel some I like to have a CB. Where the heck do you put one with the 6 speed? The whole console is taken up with shift lever, 4x4 shift lever and cup holders! Larv

I have the automatic, but this may give you another idea. I'm going to bend and form a small piece of aluminum to conform to the top of the transmission hump. I'll fasten it to the carpet with large pieces of velcro tape. When the cup holder is open, the piece of aluminum will be underneath it, out of the way. On the left -- driver's -- side of the hump I'm going to heli-arc the brackets for the CB radio, which will stand up straight, with its controls pointed towards the headliner, and it will be oriented fore-and-aft, so the bottom side of the CB radio will be next to my right leg, with a clearance of about 3" or so. At the same time I weld the brackets for the CB radio, there is also enough room for brackets for my small Yaesu 2m-440 and an aluminum ring that will hold a 1-qt Stanley thermos -- and the cup holder will still open and close. With everything mounted to the aluminum plate, I can remove it all if I want by closing the cup holder, disconnecting the antenna and power wires, and lifting on the plate until the velco comes loose from the carpet (of course, so can anyone else who breaks into the truck if I've left the radios in place, but that's the downside of not having enough space to get these accessories mounted).

I have an 01 but heres my plan already in action. The 2 vents above the radio are gone. I've pulled a CB radio apart and now only have the front face left with wires running to the circuit board so it can be mounted under the dash. I can fit the radio in the vent area without any modification to the vent system behind it. Black plastic around the CB face fills in the rest just like an aftermarket CD deck would need. Should look really neat when I'm done.

Just an idea, and pretty in depth but I plan on keep this truck forever. Now I just need to figure out where to mount 11 toggle switches.

I posted a couple pics in my readers rigs. I had to break out the Dremmel, I also went with a smaller Cobra than my previous truck. I like the location. I had no plans for that lower cubby except to store junk... .....

That's exactly what I planned on doing... . I'm glad to hear that someone else tried it before me and was successful. :)

Before you get too carried away cutting up your ride or radio check out the Cobra 75.

There's nothing there but the mike and a small box where all the wires come together. I put the junction box under the floor console and all you see is the mike. Probably not the perfect radio for the serious guys, but has given me all the talking I need. Has weather channels too.

Here is what I did. You know those cell phone mounts, the ones that are on a 6" or 12" riser? I have one end mounted to the transmission hump and have the radio mounted to the other end. Looks good, did not have to cut into the dash and It is adjustable to many positions. Will try to attach pic soon so you can get a idea of what I mean.

Mounted them to the passenger side of the trans hump. This way cup holders are still useable, and radio can be adjusted as needed.

I see many of them mounted to the passenger side transmission hump, and still more (small-frame radios) mounted in the hole where the 4x4 shifter would go on a 2-wd.

I personally mounted mine on the top dead center of my dash with velcro on the back of the mounting bracket, and on the top of the dashboard.

I couldn't find another reasonable place for mine, since I use it daily, and with a Galaxy 99, it's hard to find a big enough spot!

Mine isn't installed yet. No time right now to finish the job, but at least the hole in the dash will get me to finish it sometime. Right now I'm actaully looking at getting a different radio. I dont like what I have now.

Butch, how does the little thing work out? I've only seen one in action and it didn't work that well. The antenna was tuned for it but we could never figure out why it had no range. Whats the watt output on it? And where does the mic hang from?

TThickstun,

As far as I'm concerned, the 75 works just as good as my 29. Didn't like it at first, but changed the antenna and all was well. It's 4 watts I think, or whatever is legal-can't be turned up.

On the interstate I seem to get about the same range as all the truckers unless their running "tall".

I've got the mic clip just above and to the right of the ashtray; right below the cubbyhole.

I had the 29 in the truck for awhile using velcro and putty and all sorts of stuff just looking for a good place for it and then gave up on it. Maybe there'll be room for it when I upgrade in about 2012.

I built this box in front of my center seat... I have the '96 5 speed, but I can't imagine there is less space than that.

BTW now there is also a 2meter radio with the CB in that spot.
