Talk about timing - one of the tabs, that serve to keep the lid up, broke yesterday on my new baby - 3 months and 4200 miles young. While trying to fish out CDs, I wondered if any of you had gutted the console and re-built the liner so that it's more user friendly - would probably replace the hinges at the same time to something that'll last more than 4K miles.

Fireman Dave ~ let me know what the warrantly length is for sure if you have would I woudl sure appreciate it. Did they replace yours with only one tab broken or all?

$240 dollars there must be a silver liner in that thing I am nto aware of!!!!

Bob:
The bottom of the work orders say 3/36, but I'd talk to the dealer to find out for sure. I thought the 3/36 was drivetrain and 12/12 was bumper to bumper. My dealer has been great about it. No hassles. One broken tab is enough to be deffective, in my opinion - and no argument from the dealer. Once one tab breaks, the rest go fast anyway. Right now I have one broken off and one cracked. #ad

1tuffram: I don't know about the '95s, but on mine the plastic tabs that are breaking are what holds the lid up. The actual hinge is fine.

I guess I should sell mine. I removed the center seat (brackets, bottom seat, cover) and installed an actual console from a van.

1996 gray with cloth fabric. Probably only sat in three times and the storage console part held maps for maybe 30,000 miles / 14 months before removal.

All four of my "inertia tabs" as the dealer calls them broke the first three days I had my truck. It took about three weeks for the part to come in. After it was replaced it squeaked about 3 times and has lasted a week already!!!!

What I'm refering to is when the whole console is flipped up, not the lid. I really have to tug and twist and rack the whole console before it gets "unhooked" and will lower back down. Never noticed this when new console installed (had 3 installed so far). I think something in the console hinges (not hinge for the lid) is catching or something when tring to flip whole console back down.

Mine did more than squeek. Sends chills up you back. I lubed it as someone in this thread suggested and now it functions without a hitch. It looks like it could have a better designed hinge and also use metal!

Fireman Dave ~ Thanks for the warranty info will tell dealer as soon as I build the nerve to take it to them.

1tuffram ~ understand what you are saying now and right now don't have that problem at least not yet.

Thanks to you both.

Today one tab broke & two are cracked, 10,000 miles on my 2001. Dealer order one today, service man said on the new trucks the center console has been upgraded, I don't know if he was talking about my 2001 or the 2001. 5. He said it should be in on monday. will let you know.

Got my truck in Oct. All four are broke. Going in monday to get it fixed. Also dealer gave me keys to a lock and cable that was on spare tire. Guess what. I tried the key last week. Wrong key. Had I been on the road with a flat I would have been really %&*#@*
All in all, love my truck.
Oh yes, I had even greased them with lubriplate before. Hmm. Cold weather??Been in the 30s a lot lately.

Well, After 3. 5 months, my replacement console is finally in. I'll take it in next week. Hopefully, I get more than 3weeks out of it before it breaks this time. Still love the truck though. BTW what's everyone using to lube these things?

I've always had good luck using a high grade silicon spray to lube the hinges. Don't get any greasy build-up. Also spray some silicon in the latch assembly.

The dealer ordered mine today. He said he had seen about 6 others. He said they were on "national backorder" Don't know what that meant, but it didn't sound good.
Yes Fireman Dave in your part of the country, I imagine 30 degrees would be almost like a walk in the sun. Sixty five here today.
