I have an '02 that the dealer installed a new lift pump in the tank about a year ago. I have noticed a loss in power and checked fuel pressure 3psi@ idle and 0 psi @ WOT. My question is has anyone converted an intank system back to the original location, and if so how hard is it to do.

Thanks for the help

Mike

The in-tank pump may be a poor setup - but changing to an engine mounted one is simply replacing one bad setup with another!

Best method to date is moving a suitable pump (many to choose from!) down close to, but outside the tank. ;)

My definition (& . 02) of a "suitable" pump is a internal or external gear pump, NOT vane type pumps. You have to use a bypas back to the tank (where you also set the input psi to the VP44) because they generally pump more fuel than the VP44 can use.

Exactly - why replace poop with old poop. Go the gear type, put it on the frame, divert excess back to fill tube, filter after pump and pre-screen before then forget about it. MHO - I replaced 4 stock POS carters before I got tired of screwing around with junk.

I relocated my ol' Carter to a spot just above the tank just like Gary mentioned, and it lasted quite awhile (until I got some bad fuel).

There is a thread about a new pump called an Airtex, part number E7153 (gearotor type) that is supposed to be a replacement for the OEM. Read the thread and then decide for yourself.
