Don't pull much anymore so thinking of changing the 4:10 out for better milage. Since this is dana rear end, should I be contacting them for a lower ratio rear end or is there someone else to go through? How hard is it to change? Can I still tow with a lower ratio or will I damage transmission? Any suggestions appreciated.

Call 1-800-SAY-DANA for the closest Spicer dealer to you. You can get all of the stuff you need from them or you could Reider Racing and get everything from them that you need. Either place is good to get parts from. As far as changing it out they are not that hard. It helps to have all of the fancy tools to make it easier, but they are not necesserily needed. Read up on how to do it and take your time and you should be fine.

Well you can buy the gears for a good price from Randy's Ring and Pinion. Thats a nice place to get stuff from... But when doing it, you really should put new axle seals and bearings since you have the rear end torn apart... You much adjust the backlash on the gears correctly or you can kiss the gears goodbye

Don't forget the front axle, otherwise 4x4 is useless. By the time you have rebuilt the axles, and regeared them you have alot invested, both time and money. It would prob take years to recover this money by the couple MPG you might pick up. You would be better off finding someone with the 3. 54's who wants 4. 10's and swaping axles. That could open up an entirely different can of worms though.

Properly installing and setting up ring and pinion gears takes special tools and lots of experience. Best left to a good shop familar with the work.

Don't forget the front ratio has to match the rear.
