I am going to replacement my injection pump tomorrow morning. I was wondering if anyone could offer advise. It seems it is just a simple unbolt the old one and bolt the new one in. Anything about timing, computer stuff? Any help is appreciated. Thanks everybody. Dan

Take off the gearcase cover, line everything up (cam, crank, pump. . ) and mark everything up with a paint pen to make sure it goes back together the right way...

The pump gear is keyed so you can't put that on wrong... just make sure you line it up when you put it back together.

Since the VP-44 is electronic... you can get it within an earshot of being 'dead-on' and it will figure out the rest.

There is a sensor that reads a reluctor wheel position inside the pump on the pump shaft called the 'angular encoder'. That provides input to the pump's ECM as to where the driveshaft is.

The ECM can then tell the other solenoids and so forth what to do to affect timing and make your truck run.

Thanks Matt. It sounds simple enough. I have read a few things on it and everything seemed pretty easy. Thanks again. Dan

Make sure you have the keyway at the top so it will not fall out when you pull the pump! If you place a magnet on the front cover near the opening you will give yourself a little more insurance that nothing will fall into the gears.

Matt are you referring to the blow by outlet?

What you will need to do is remove breather bottle hose, then unscrew breather bottle from the gear case.

Now with a "stubby" flat head screwdriver, find the "TDC" line on the fuel pump gear.

Rotate engine until this mark is in the 7-8 O'clock position.

This will allow for the pump key to face up while being removed, that will prevent a loose pump key from falling onto the gear train (and possibly into crank case).

You might try a search or sending me a PM.

Take the injection lines off in two sets of 3 not individually. Don't forget the bottom support braket on the bottom engine side of pump.
