I have the Medalist (private label BFG) sport kings on my truck (toyota) and have been QUITE happy with them, they are 33x12. 5R15 and I paid $92/tire. A buddy of mine had Mud Kings in 33x12. 5R15 on his IFS chevy and only saw 14k out of them before they were DONE.
 
Well, I just recieved the sneakers from High-Tec Retreading. They are nice units. They will be mounted tomorrow. I wish I had them this past weekend with the 30 inches of snow we just got.





We'll see tomorrow how the tires really are
 
OK, the sneakers are on and I am very impressed, as was the tire shop that mounted them. The guy said he was concerned as caps tent to balance very poorly. He said that the tires I had balanced better than brand name new tires.



As far as carcasses, I ened up with Bridgestone 756? They all matched.



Now for th e traction part... . YeeeHaaa!!!! WE have about a foot and a half of slush and snow on the back streets of Cambridge, MA. Last night I could barely make it through the stuff. Today is a different story. (Old western gunfight theme music). I challenged the same piles by stoppin in the middle of them... . Accellerated right out withrooster tails a flyin when I mashed it!!!
 
I believe Jeff did get the green diamond material in his tires.



Mine just arrived. They have the same tread,size and green diamonds as Jeff's.

i dont know if your truck is lifted this high but i have some 39" m/t baja belted's for 15" rim sitting here at my house. about 20% thread left ill sell them to you for 75 bucks for all 4.
 
my buddy gets 36 in x 12. 5 x16. 5 military surplus tires that came off hummers with 70% of tread left they cost 36 bucks good deal!!!:D

My brother had a set of N78-15 buckshot mudders on a 1/2 ton Dodge and had several come apart, he discovered that all the tires that failed were made in Israel and all the ones that held together were made in the USA. He liked the tires and would buy a set of the US made ones if he could find them.

I've got a set of High-Tec Retreading OTR Muds mounted on my old steel wheels. They shipped fast and balanced real well. All on Michelin LTX casings with the little green diamonds. Awesome new traction!

Good deal, good tires, and great service.

Total delivered for four was $320.
 
Regarding mud tires. I've pulled people with super swampers out of mud holes I crossed with Geolander MT's. Price is pretty reasonable--much less than Goodyear MT-R, BFG, Bridgestone (another real good performer though). I don't think money can be the driving force is this issue. You have to have the best you can get or surely your chances of getting bit are too high.



I wish I knew half as much as most of you members have forgotten about the technical pieces, but tires I've had my mind into pretty deep. I wish I could tell you a winch won't be needed but alas it is indispensible {as is a shovel and hi-lift jack}

Recapping has changed a lot for the better if compared to times that gave them a bad rep. The technology is good enough for many large fleet and governmental fleets to use exclusively. Talk to someone in the business who knows the details.

The restriction against using caps on steering axles has always applied to class 8 OTR trucks only, I'm pretty sure, and really isn't relevant when discussing smaller and less weighted use. I'm not sure, but was that a DOT restriction or California vehicle code only? I heard it most of my working lifebut I was always in CA when working.
 
'Jury still out'

I've held off in providing feedback until I saw more changing weather. My OTR's balanced well and look great on the truck.



Until this week, we've had a nasty cold snap of mostly below zero weather. This translates to mostly ice covered dirt roads.



I did not have studs installed in the OTR's and now think I probably should have as I was not real impressed with the traction on icy roads. I gave them more than enough miles for the green diamonds to surface and really don't notice their effect at all. If you see lots of ice, consider adding studs.



Now I've driven them in deep snow and am not exactly blown away by the traction. However, since my last set were cooper M/S with studs, I am probably being too critical of these tires.



Yesterday I was trying to pull my wife's minivan out of the snowbank she 'parked' in. I was on packed snow and it was like I had bald tires despite being in 4lo with the heavy cummins hanging over the front end... Then again it was really icy and packed and I don't have studs... .



As I said, the Jury is still out, especially since so many are impressed by these... ...



The good new is, if they don't work out, I have a rarely used 3/4ton suburban that needs snows..... :)



I will be sure to report again as the miles add up and the weather presents new challenges... .

I gotta admit I am looking at theese pretty hard as of late. BFG's Mudders are beating my wallet up. (Sure burnouts don't help) But it's the front end that chews em alive. Sooo when I saw theese I started to ponder ... . and still am pondering.
 
This is probably too unbalanced but there are no deep discount ways to have good rubber and to not have good rubber is like having bad ammo. It is certainly possible to pay premium prices for poorly performing tir but no way that I've ever found to get good tires for low prices. When they're half gone it close to replace them. Just can't take a heavy vehicle with power and a fun driver and expect much more than 20,000miles. The last half of a tires treadwear life isn't worth it to me.



Tire Racks customer reporting data seems pretty true to my experience.



Your can try Bridgestone's for 30days or 1000miles and return for a full refund in you are not satisfied! I liked my Bridgestone MT's pretty well when I ran them on a Series 80 Land Cruiser.
