Been thinking of having my stock clutch replaced with a south bend. Now for the questions:

1. Used only as a daily driver.

2. Haul 8-10,000 lb loads in the summer.

3. Only modifications are Smarty Jr. , intake and exhaust.

Just curious if I should also have hydraulic system upgraded as well?

Really just wondering if stock should be replaced b/c of the smarty jr. upgrade. Plan on running it on low setting, but we know how that goes:-laf

Also, was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for transmission shops in the NJ/Pa area. Whew, I think that's everything:-laf. Thanks! :)

South Bend recomends upgrading the hydraulics with all of their clutches. A con ofe sounds like it would suit you best. I just put in a SB FE and love it . Total cost with hydro upgrade, new fly wheel and clutch was about 1800 installed. I love the clutch. If you run the 70 hp or 100hp your stock clutch will slip on you easily in 5th or 6th gear when you get on it hard.

Thanks for the info! Definitely something to consider.

You can try "OK 4WD, Auto, and Tire" on Rt. 57 in Stewartsville, NJ. 908-454-6973. Scott Morris is the shop foreman and is as sharp a driveline guy as you will find. I've known those guys since it was Jim, the owner, Mike, and Scotty fooling with Jeeps out of an old service station. Now they've gone big time. The shop is usually swamped, and they do have a bunch of people working there now. It's probably best to drop in when you've got some time, and try to talk to one of the original guys, if you get my drift.

I had a transmission done on one of my wifes cars at level 3 in Ogdensburg a while back. I dont know if they do std transmission work. Their work was top notch, and they gave me a good price.

There's a place named "Han's" in englishtown NJ. Might be a ride for you, but they used to work on my and my brothers big rigs. He does work on the diesel PU trucks too. He gave me a price on my 12 valve of $125 (spill port method)to time it up, which was very reasonable. I know, I've been pricing it.

Check out Southbends website for installers. I went with one and it was real easy. They ordered the clutch and only charged me $400 r/r and were finished in 4 1/2 hrs. Not sure how much more a 4x4 would have been.

i agree the SBC OFE is an awesome clutch and it sounds like it would fit you perfectly. i would also recommend the hydraulic upgrade because you can adjust your pedal to your liking.
