Hey guys, I'm not an exhaust expert so I need someone to tell me the best way to do this. I've got an MBRP exhaust system but I've got to install an HX40 downpipe to hook up to my HTB2. Problem is, the HX40 DP is considerably shorter than the MBRP pipe so now I have a gap.

I don't want to go hacking on the MBRP downpipe and ruin a $450 exhaust system so what's the best way to go about this and where do I get the materials? I'll probably need something 18" or a little longer to fill the gap between the downpipe and the rest of the exhaust. I've been trying to find a short (less than 2') piece of 4" pipe but no luck locally. Do I need to have one end flared or can I just use a clamp to connect the two pieces?

Thanks!

If you can find a muffler/exhaust shop that has 4", just have them cut a piece about 6" longer than the gap and flare both ends. Then use SS band clamps to hold it on.

The trick might be finding a shop that has 4" and can flare it. Let your fingers do the walking...

Yeah, I had called a big truck parts place but they didn't have a way to flare it. That's going to be my problem.

Assuming that downpipe is aluminum which I believe it is, I guess I could just have another piece of 4" aluminum pipe welded to that to extend it but I can't remember if the MBRP downpipe is flared or if the other end of the exhaust system has the flare on it. I'll check it out this evening.

Walker makes different lengths of 4" aluminized pipe that are expanded on one end. Truck parts places can order them. 42891 is 18" and 42531 is 24" long. you can also get a connector that slides over 4" on both ends of it, 41985 or 41895 are 8" long.

you can also get butt clamp type band clamps... they do not have the ridge like most band clamps do. they are designed to seal 2 equal OD sizes of tube...

they look like this[that is actually a 3" butt clamp, but 4" ones are avalable too]...
