I just had my center console lid / cover replaced by a dealer. The problem was that the spring was starting to push the center back edge of the console lid up. It made a bulge in the top. Now the second replacement top is starting to do the samething. Any one have the same problem? I did a search and know about the hinge problem, but have not seen this problem.
Dodge finally redesigned the hinges so they won't crack (YEEEE HAAAAAWWWW). As for your prob..... I personally haven't had this problem but then I haven't had the same cover on for more than 10000 miles. I wouls suggest that you go to the stealer and tell them you want a new lower unit because it sounds like the spring is too strong. Don't you just love the center console.
i am having the exact same problem with my spring starting to push up through my console lid. i just had the lid replaced and i can really feel the spring trying to poke through. i was wondering if you ever found a fix for this problem. thanks
Well maybe yes, I had the dealer replace the console lid under warranty and I have had no more problems. But it took three console lids before they got one that did hot have the spring Bulge problem. I had a cover made for the lid and center console to match my seat covers (to keep a work truck nice). I can only feel through the cover and I have only a very slight bulge. I remember the dealer called in the zone rep. Hope this helps.
I recently disassembled my center console to install a leather kit. The end of the spring is supposed to be held in place by a stainless tube that runs from the front of the console lid to the back. Though mine was not assembled correctly the spring was not poking up into the foam/vinyl. My guess is that those who are experiencing this have either the spring and or tube pushing into your arm.
If your spring is poking through then you are in for an uphill battle. It is not a fun job taking this console apart. Thank goodness for warranties though (If applicable).
I had the same problem with the spring wanting to come through the top of the lid on mine.
The small metal tube does just about go the length of the lid and must be around the spring end for it to work properly.
I also noticed a small plastic tab that holds the part of the spring end/tube thingy in place had broken and was allowing the whole spring to rotate when the lid was close thus creating the bulge on the top of the lid. I created a small metal brace that holds this in place and riveted it to the surrounding plastic with two small aluminum rivets. It didn't interfere with the closing of the lid at all.
I can't recall now what it took to remove/separate the top lid from the inner section, but think it was snapped on around the perimeter of the lid by plastic tabs. I used a fairly stiff putty knife to separate the tabs very carefully. It is not that hard to remove the hinge pin from the lid. It just makes it easier to fix the lid section on the workbench
The FSM has fair instructions on how to remove the lid assembly from the console, but you have to be creative on fixing the spring portion unless you go to the dealer. I just wanted to avoid that scenario alltogether.
