It is on the driver's side front lower corner of the block in pretty big numbers. (1"?) Look right above where the oil pan is connected to the engine. You can only see it from under the truck, and it is slightly in front of the power steering pump.....

Let me know if you still can't find it. :D

I looked at mine this morning and there is no numbers, unless they are underneath the wiring bundle that runs along the bottom of the block. It is strapped on so I could not move it to look under to see any numbers. Mine is not an early 24 valve. It is a 2000 that was manufactured in November of 1999. If you have any Vin numbers that would help the ID. I did look every where for the numbers, from the power steering pump to the front of the block. Even tried to see some thing from the rear of the engine and no numbers???

Well Id look but my truck is under investagation by dodge inspector who has never heard of a cracked block around these parts. :--)

I think we are chasing our tails on this one :) Seems to be a total non issue in the Dodge Pickup. Unless you drive a School Bus :D Time to move on and try to discover other obscure problems with our trucks. This would be alot easier if we had one of the other truck brands

Hmmm. I wonder if it's a non-issue for HWhitaker?

I fall into the "53" club. It's cast into the block, not stamped. Can't miss it. I've seen at least one other member post w/ cracks in this area. DC poppd for a new block, not short block, block! DC wanted the Local Cummins shop to re-use the piston rings. This was on an engine w/ 100k miles. Wiser heads finally prevailed.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

FWIW, my truck has a 1/01 build date.

Service writer at my local 5 scar dealership (five scar cuz they always leave some trace of having worked on it, or just break something else) anywho, he said the shortblock is near $10K over the part counter! Though I presume that's due the the HEALTHY markup everything gets if it goes through Pentastar distribution channels.

I just took mine in for a burn'n smell, but I think its the clutch.

Anywho, good luck and let us know how it plays out. Get'n that lil I6 out is a little work!
