Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) crankcase breather tube

Does anybody know if there are any products or ways to replace the oil breather so it doesn't get oil all over the front of the truck? Also how effective or non-effective would it be to attache a hose with hose clamp and run it down near the axel so it will drain onto the ground. Any ideas or thoughts would be helpfull.

I put a 1/2 inch 2inch long copper pipe with clamps and ran mine down onto the drag link and put a couple socks on the end. When the get oil soaked I replace them(the socks). All of us have worn out socks. Sure keeps the bottom of the engine cleaner. OH I attach the hose with cable ties to the draglink.

there are alot of ideas out ther if you search the old threads. I personally just ran a piece of high heat heater hose down the frame ending at the trans/case. people have put breather filters on the end of the hose put socks which I used at one time filters/collects and still lets it move air. just change it when it gets really saturated. pending the climate where you live or drive when the winter and snow cold etc. hits have heard of peoples straight down hoses freezing due to snow ice etc and plugging the hose this can cause trouble. cummins makes a kit that recycles the oil back into the dipstick I believe its pricey. I think glacier diesel has a kit that collects filters and allows you to drain it. Ive seen someone cannot remmember he has a red truck that built or has a collection box that is mounted underneath by your feet. seen someone get a napa oil cap and drill it out put a bung in it with a filter on top of the cap so you can still use the cap. dont know how well that worked out. maybe some of the ones I talked about will chime in for you.

Really only thing to remember is when you extend and route make sure there is no dips and goes down hill. Condensation can collect and freeze during winter blocking it and causing problems.

As some other members have done, I also attached a section of 3/4 inch ID (maybe 5/8, don't remember) Goodyear heater hose with a straight barbed metal connector and ran the hose down the frame rail to just behind the drivers door. I did not want any oil drips so I also moved the breather bottle and used a 90 degree barbed connector and ran the end of the hose into the bottle. Works great, no more mess on the front of the engine, radiator, gear cover, fan blades, harmonic dampener, transmission cooler lines, etc. Total cost about $15.

I do not have the hose in the front of the truck as purchased used, I has a solid plastic screw on cover and they tapped into some place on the block for the crankcase hose attachment. My boys truck we ran hose to the trans area. Ed

You need to install the Cummins Fleetguard ENVIROGUARD.....

This afternoon I removed the breather tube and bottle assembly. I installed a 9' 3/4" ID heat tube from the top of the breather assembly and routed it down the driver side of the engine and down the driver side frame rail. I installed a 90 degree elbow and reinstalled the bottle assembly. I have attached pictures of what it looks like.

Theres been a fair amout of talk about this a while ago and really it boils down to what you really want to spend to get a drip free truck, also your level of creativity,for me i went with a extension off the original breather hose and extended it into the driver side frame rail,

Works for me and only cost about $ 12. 00 bucks,

Summit racing offers a crankcase breather for around $35. 00 bucks, i also found a oil water seperator similar to a compress air system one for $ 30. 00 bucks, ether one would require you to drain it at some interval, but could freeze during the colder months if you live in a area that sees below freezing temps.

The factory installed puke bottle on some trucks was a cheap so so fix by Dodge, the Cummins Enviro system is what should have been installed from the factory, its a shame that Dodge elected to pass the cost onto us for correction.

Thats a slick set up. What kind of Amsoil unit is that you are running?

It is the EaBP110, the EaBP120 is recommended only for use with the BMK 30. I also am using the EAO80 full flow filter and AMSOIL synthetic oil.
