I had AAA VISA, then they lowered their fuel rebate from 5% to 2%. I switched to Citi Mastercard, and now they have lowered their fuel rebate from 5% to 2%. Is there any credit card still offering a 5% rebate? Thx.

my pop gets good pricing on gas from canadian tire [canadian tire mastercard]. . he gets $0. 10 off per liter of gas. . i think it is good for diesel too, but i don't spend enough per month on any CC to qualify for the full 10 cent/liter

Discover Card

I've saved $140. 00, so far. It's a good deal, I think.

The only catch is that they keep calling you to try to get you to buy the credit insurance. They were calling me, at least, once a month. However, for the money saved, it's not that big of an inconvenience.

I got one of the Shell mastercards a year or so ago, and it's 5%, and they apply the rebate on the next bill.

I got it when they had one of those double rebate deals.

I have a AAA credit card that I pay off each month. I get the 5% rebate on gas by putting groceries and a few other monthly things on it. You can still get 5% by being creative. And for everyone else's information, the rebate from this card is on the next bill just like Shell's Mastercard.

That's the advantage of the Advanta card, or any non branded card. I can purchase fuel wherever I want. The rebate is issued in the form of a check. The check is issued after you've reached $50 or more in rebates.

Cards like BP and Shell require you purchase fuel from them.

Credit Card

I use the Discover Card and get the %5 on the first $1200 which lasts me a year then it renews. As for the Shell I applied and received the card then discovered that it didn't cover deisel or avaition gas (I called and verified this) so I canceled it without ever using it. Then I wrote a nasty letter to the company for using false and deceptive advertising becaust the exclusions were not mentioned in the promotions. Larry

I had gotten my Shell card when I still had my gasser, then after I went diesel saw that diesel wasn't included..... however most of the stations I use must run the card differently as I get the rebate each month, and the diesel charges are in the 5% category.

I'm recycling this back to the top to see if there are any additional replies. Anyone out there aware of any other cards that still offer 5% rebates on diesel fuel purchases, besides the ones mentioned above?

AAA/Visa offers 5%, IF you make additional purchases (not incl fuel) equal to 1. 5 X (times) the dollar amount of fuel purchased during your billing period. Otherwise, the fuel rebate is 2%, no matter how much fuel you purchase. Discover has more than one kind of card (I found out today). The fuel card ("Open Road" card) offers 5% rebate on the first $1,200. 00 purchased during a year, which equals $60. 00. I'd spend that in one round-trip across the country. The other Discover cards offer 5% on purchases from various retailers, which changes every 90 days. Our particular card does not include fuel purchases until July 1st. You can change back-and-forth between Discover's various plans, but each change is effective only at the start of your next billing period. Also, the total amount of fuel purchases that qualify for a rebate changes according to the plan. Citi Mastercard changed from 5% to 2% on 10-1-06, but the 2% doesn't have any gimmicks.

Anyone have any more current info?

5%

We have Discover and I just called them 2 weeks ago and they are offering 5% on fuel. I just had to tell them I wanted to add that feature to my card [I could have gotten a separate card if I had wanted to]. I did have to wait til my current billing cycle was over to start the 5%. Give them a call. Diana

I called Discover on Wednesday, April 25th and the info I got is different from what you were told. Apparently it depends on who you talk to.

Re the Advanta fuel cards: There are two different Advanta fuel cards that offer a 3% rebate. Does anyone know what the difference between the two is?

Thx.
