i own a 2004 DRW dodge and a DRW chevy 2003 the chevy truck has had some problems mainly injector problems but other than that fact its been a decent truck but the dodge hands down will out pull out tractor a chevy any day . i own both and i know . see if they will let you take the chevy home for the weekend and pull your trailer with it best wishes

Wow dude you opened a can of worms. Getting on this forum and telling us that you dislike your Cummins and want a D-Max, is tantamount to telling your 'ol lady that you are sick of her and would rather play with her sister!!! Well perhaps not that bad, but close. :D

I've not noticed any flaming on this thread. A lot of constructive advice and genuine well wishes if he decides to make the switch. Life is too short to worrry about the decisions other people make about their toys and/or tools.

I don't understand about the brakes?? Dodge has the best brakes, period. Gms still use 16 inch wheels that are only 6 inches wide so you cannot go to a bigger tire. Dodge uses a 17x8 inch wheel to CLEAR THE HUGE ROTORS AND CALIPERS. If you wait till august you can have a six speed auto in your Dodge.

Agreed no real flaming, but perhaps some raised eyebrows. I also believe EVERYONE has the right to make their own choices, with regards to vehicle and lifestyle in general. No offense meant to the original poster, or anybody's wife. :D

I wonder If he is even reading/caring about this tread. There has not been any responses to any posts. May be he changed his mind and will post the first picture of an '07 ;) :-laf  :D :) :{ :p

I think there are a lot of people out there for whom the GM trucks may be the better choice. I tried twice, in '01 and '03 with Chevy's. I had three Suburbans before those trucks and it was natural to go Chevy. What I found as my towing needs changed is that the GM trucks simply do not do the work as well. Prior to the '06 I liked the seats and interior of the GM trucks better. They also had more features prior to '06. Dodge has cought up on the interior and features IMO. There is no doubt that the lower step in height is easier for many, the smoother ride and more carlike handling from the IFS on 4x4s has merits if those are the traits you seek. The powerband of the V8 diesels is such that rpms rise more quickly and the trucks are generally faster stock than our CTDs. That stuff appeals to many.

Not to knock folks for geography but having moved from the flat midwest to a mountain state I see 10 times the Dodge trucks here than in MN. Everybody there drives a Chev or GMC. For the most part they tow campers and boats across the flatlands and commute in them during the week. Once you hit the grades and start really working the trucks, the CTD starts to shine. The bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, better fuel economy, stronger frame and factory intergrated exhaust brake all start to make more sense. On my Chevy's I had to swap shocks to control the loads, swap tires so it didn't look stupid, swap mirrors so I could see around the trailer and trade the short box for a long box to get some fuel capacity. They have fixed a couple of those things now but the Dodge comes ready for work.

This skirts the quality issue altogether. I didn't have good luck with either of my Chevys. Many folks do. I never had injector problems but I ditched the '01 at 97k miles for fear of owning it out of powetrain warranty. I traded the '03 when the Allison repeatedly fried its transmission fluid towing in the mountains. I haven't had any problems on four Dodges save one injector on the '05. I have also become hooked on the CTD torque, the others can't touch it.

I wish the poster luck if he goes that route. I think many of us have been there and while we wouldn't reccomend the GM trucks, they aren't "bad", they just aren't as good as our CTDs :-laf

I don't know if you are still reading or not, but if you are feel free to stop by and let us know what you decided and how you are doing. IMHO, once you are in the family, you are in the family no matter how far you stray!

As for trucks, I have always liked the look of the Ford Crew (especially with 35's on it) better than any other truck. So much so, that I traded a really reliable 99' CTD in on one. I had that 7. 3 for 6 months and it was in the shop 5 times. I still miss the look of the crew but my Dodge's have been MUCH more reliable. That's my story.

Can't comment much on Chevy diesels only know what I have read. As far as Chevy non-diesel, I drove some when I worked in mining and they were crap. Sat too low and fell apart in a heartbeat (get it, heartbeat! :) ).

I do wish you well friend and hope your decision serves you well!!
