well i paid $2. 13 a gallon in ct on tuesday wed. morning i drove past saw same station $2. 19... . if this keeps up and diesel isn't much cheapier than gas next year by may or so i'll be looking for a gas truck and this truck will go bye bye not worth paying more than super unleaded i'll take 3-4 mpg less and say . 30-. 40 cents less a gallon

I feel the same way, but then I look at how well the CTD pulls, especialy when in a head wind or up a BIG hill, and I have to wonder if the Gas powered truck would be worth it. I've decided I will only drive the CTD when needed.

The economics of our diesel trucks are taking a hit on the chin, big time.

In my instance, previous truck (gasser) got about 15 mpg on my work commute, my diesel gets 20: Diesel mpg advantage: 33%

Right now diesel is pushing $2. 10 around here, while regular unleaded is around $1. 85 the last time I looked. Diesel cost disadvantage: 14%

It looks depressingly likely that diesel will reach the point of diminishing returns where the extra mpg does not offset the extra cost. If your truck is NOT paid for yet, and you are financing that expensive Cummins engine (several thousand $$$ premium over a gasser engine) you may already be losing money compared to driving a gasser.

Even for those with paid off trucks, it's a bitter blow to see the advantages of our diesels eroded away by moronic fuel pricing. Many of us will continue to drive the diesels for their particular advantages, but for a lot of the market the incentive to go diesel is fading away at the pumps this very moment. #@$%!

Owning a (Dodge) diesel is as far as I am concerned a quality of life issue! :-laf

From what I read on the Internet, large inventories of gasoline from the summer is keeping the price down lower for now. Don't be surprised to see gas up before the holidays and stay there. I'd be willing to guess that diesel will begin falling in February, as it usually does, and unless oil decreases in price, gas will not fall.

Just a sample... ... http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world_business/view/110848/1/.html

"The way things are at the moment it's conceivable that if the strike in Nigeria goes ahead you could see 60 dollars a barrel," said Simon Wardell, senior energy analyst at the World Markets Research Centre. "

This could raise diesel to an average of 2. 37 or more from 2. 10 now.

A great place to watch diesel prices in your state is at Layover.com

I love my truck but I might just park it and drive my Rabbit which scares me to drive. I feel like I'm driving in a sardine can when I'm motoring down the freeway in traffic.

In Phoenix there is a place called Discount Zone on 7th Av at I-17 on ramp. They always had their diesel pumps for small trucks preprogrammed for the under 26,000 lb folks. That is, 8 cents less then the OTR turcks have to pay.

Well, guess what they done did... . yep, the pumps are the same price either way and you have to know that you are due a refund and have to go to the counter to get it.

Rip off! and if they weren't making enough on it already??

Flying J has their pumps set aside for only small trucks. OTR trucks will get fined big time if they try to use them. Not enough room to them them into the pumps anyway.

Be careful in those tinbox economy cars, fellows - back around 2001 one of our fellow members posted about a buddy who had been killed driving a Geo, in a collision he might have survived in a truck (trying to be economical by driving the small car). Small cars usually come out on the short end of the stick in a collision.

On the bright side, most of the bigger vehicles will be parked at the bank trying to get a home equity loan to finance a TANKFUL OF DIESEL, so driving the little cars may not be so risky after all #@$%!

I have to agree, a friend of mine was killed while a passenger in a VW that went head on with a tow truck. The truck had minor damage to the bumper and grill and the driver didn't have a scratch.
