Since my very first fill up on my 01' Ram I have had the fuel that splashed at fill-up permanently staining the fender on my white truck. As soon as I would see a splash I would wipe it up but it was too late... it seems like it is embedded below the clear coat.
I tried dish soap, Spray 9, clear coat compound. Maguiers [a few different products] and nothing budged the stains.

I had a professoinal detailer I know have a look at it. He said no problem. Then as his eyes went wide open in shock that the stains did not go away he tried another compound and again the stains remained.

This is on the dually fender on a white truck. Did anyone find something to get the stains off? Is this staining occurring on the metal surfaces on a 2500 too?

I am taking the truck to the dealer this week and even if they get the stain off [I think they will have to replace the fender or repaint] what can we do to avoid the stains next time besides carrying towels and being super careful? I have had other white trucks and never had this before.

If nothing has worked so far, I would be inclined to try Clay Magic. I have used it on my wife's five year old, highly neglected Taurus and it lifted the crud and grit right off the paint. Maybe, just maybe it will work on the stain.

Scott, it is like that on my truck also. It is Driftwood. I think it has to do with the plastic fenders. I never saw this problem on my 2500, with the black/silver two tone. I have yet to find anything to remove it and I'm affraid it has absorbed into the fender. I feel the only way to fix it now is to repaint, but what's the use. It will end up that way again. Let us know if you find anything that works.

I had the same stain on my left fender flair and nothing I tried would take it off. I talked to the guys in the body shop and it was their thoughts that since the flair is plastic it is painted with a different paint than the main body is. My flair's color did not quite match the body color so they painted the whole outside of the bed. They also stated that since the paint is the same on the flairs as the body I should not have the same trouble. This was their opinion and I am trying to be very careful when fueling to not get the spill-over as I really don't want to find out what really will happen. They stated that when they sanded the flairs to repaint that the stain was all the way through the clear coat and imbedded into the color. In my opinion I would be extremely carefull when fueling.

Good information, I have just had my new 2001 3500 4x4 Sport Bright White 2 weeks. I have only filled up twice so far and luckily haven't spilled any diesel yet. I will now be extra careful and be prepared with rag in case. Sorry to have to learn it this way, though.

What really bothers me is my 97' 3500 in white never did this and every other RAM in white since 90' did not do this.
My 98 driftwood one did not do this either.
All where 3500's.

No problems on my 2500 so far and the gas/fuel attendants here in Oregon can be messy. Jeff might have hit the nail on the head with the plastic thing.

My 00 3500 fender is stained also. The body shop foreman told me the 00 and 01 fenders are made of urathane or some kind of rubbery material. The 3500's before that were made of fiberglass. They have used a different paint on the 00 and o1's.
My dealer is going to re-paint mine under warrenty. Body man said if they paint it with same paint as body, there will be no more stains.
I sure hope he's right!!

Hey all, there was a post a while back about a "flap" that rolls up and fits over the filler tube. Open the cover and it falls out - has ribs under it to let the "overflow' by-pass the body. I looked it up and it was about 12-13$ + shipping. You may find it in the products form by searching. looks like its jut what you need(ed) when you picked up your unit (before the first fill(spill)).

here it is: (called the fuelguard - do a product search on "fuel"): http://www.griotsgarage.com/cgi-local/SoftCart. exe/products_on_line_fs.htm?L+mystore+nfcv7119+962987117

Hey Ben, I posted that several weeks ago.

I've had the Griot's Garage rubber fuel fill bib installed on my Ram for just over two years now. It's still working as well as the day I installed it. #ad

In addition, no fuel stains on my BLACK paint! #ad

I picked up a blob of grease coming down I5 and now have a stain on my 3500 fender also. There was some on the bed paint and it came right off with no stain at all.
I think I'll wait until both fenders have spots on them and then let the dealer do something about it.
I had coated the whole truck twice with wax before this happened.
My truck is a 2001 3500 6spd.

I filled up a couple of days ago, at around 9000 miles on my '01 2500, and the nozzle bubbled and splashed some diesel on the paint. Didn't have a rag to wipe it off with, decided to wait. Got home that evening and washed the entire truck.

Wouldn't you know it, the diesel stained the paint. Mine's black, and I have defined streak marks from the filler nozzle. I guess they should go well with the scratches from dogs, trees, chips from rocks, etc.

Wife said not to worry about it "it's a truck", etc. I'm pretty particular about this kind of thing. Anyone found any decent product for remedy? I've tried Meguars, which helped, but no real success.

I've got an assortment of rags in the truck box now...

Earlier 3500 Dually fenders are NOT made of fiberglass. I have a 96 and it's a urethane that if you had to replace the fender was 895 for the bare fender (no trim)

Please do not make mis-statements about things unless you are sure of the facts.
Fact, Chevy dually fenders are fiberglass.
Fact, Dodge dually fenders(94 and up) are urethane.

Sorry about that, just what I was told by body man at my dealers. I have a damn good dealer too. Mine has not stained since repainted.
Larry.

Hehe. Could you imagine someone giving themselves away by running red fuel, and staining their white dually fender with it.
