i ordered some autometer gauges today, figured that was a good starting point as any. i planned on getting a set of three pyro/boost/fuel psi, but when i went to order the fella at the other end tells me my 12v does not need the fuel pressure gauge and that one wont work. i did a fair bit of searching here the last few days and it seemed like everyone is running them.

confused as usual...

The mechanical fuel pumps used on the 12 valve motors don't have the failure problems that the newer pumps have experienced. I wouldn't bother installing a fuel pressure guage on a 12 valve.

12 Valve trucks (P-pump) don't need the fuel pressure gauge nearly as much as the 24 Valve trucks, with the vp44 pump. And automatic trans. guys (like me) like to know what temp the transmission fluid is at, so we have a transmission temp guage. But I think with your manual trans you can get by with 2 gauges, of course you could always get a transmission temp gauge and connect it to your 5 speed, or even your differential if ya want to.

As stated above, 12 valves Don't really need one- If the Fuel preussure gets low enough to be bad, the truck will not run. As for the gauge not working, that seems a little silly. Our trucks cary good fuel preussre, & any pressure gauge should read that. They may be refering to fittings - the fittings to tap into the fuel system would be different on a 12V That is the only reason I can come up with why it would not "work", but it is easily fixed with a quick trip to Napa for some fittings. P.

some might use a "low pressure light" (BD just sent me a email about one they have but being 24V and already having gauges I just deleted the email.

Hope that helps ya
