Do you carry a firearm in your RV?

I saw this thread on another forum...

I have seen this on a website and now im really confused. . What do they define as a firearm. I know that a pistol you cant carry it from state to state but what about rifles and shotguns. . Dont get me wrong, I never EVER brought my firearm with me but how many of you have and was it a pistol or rifle??

Do you carry a firearm in your RV? If I had one I would bring it. Would an RV be considered a home/2nd home? I know come tax time I was able to right off the interest on it as a 2nd home.

I've been into Canada three times with my Texas plates and those inspectors go over that subject mucho times before letting me through. I swear they all think all RV's have weapons in them.

Clayton, just curious, where did you get the information that a person could not carry a handgun across state lines?? We have been full timing for about 5 years now and have traveled all over the western US. I will neither confirm no deny that we carry handguns!! When traveling into Mexico we stop at the El Centro Police department, who will store weapons for Americans traveling into Mexico, But you better believe they do a background check on that firearm even though they don't tell you that.

We also have a 110 pound Rottweiler who also has been with us from the start.

I always carry a pistol under the seat of my pickup. This does require a concealed handgun permit which I have and those permits are recognized by most states. If safety without hassels is your concern buy a flare pistol. It will do more damage than a pistol at close range and as far as the authorities are concerned it's a safety item, "signaling device".

be careful. that permit is only recognized in a few states as of now. Not even in Washington. sorry for the brief hijack but I'd hate to see someone get in trouble who's trying to obey the law.

You can take a pistol from state to state just not when it's concealed? Unless you are some sort of law officer? You could travel all around with it in the trailer couldn't you?

I have CCW's for 30 + states now, and still growing. :-laf

I used to carry a Colt Combat Commander in 45, IWB, but most recently I've been taking a liking to the P228.

I have either a Rem 870 or a Mossberg 500 with an 18" bbl for the travel trailer.

Used to take the Mossberg, but got the Rem last year. It's a beaut!

Speedfeed stock, combat forearm, ghost ring sights, extended mag... . Yea baby!!

I think it is great they got that squared away for the police officers, now if they could just get the law abiding CPL holder on equal footing that would be great!! Personally I carry everywhere allowed. When traveling I check that state for reciprocity with MI and act accordingly.

I really don't care what the rules are from state to state. If you travel anywhere around the states and don't carry a weapon, you're a fool. I've been traveling with my family in our trailer for years and have always had guns in the trailer, truck and the car. I've meet many people in different RV parks around the US and alot of them have been robbed during their travels. Every one of them said "If I only had a gun this would have never happened". I feel sorry for the individual who trys this to me.

Like a lot of other folks we go camping to get away from people, thus 99. 999% of the time there's no LE around. Plus, ask any honest cop and they'll tell you that it's just crap luck that they ever catch a serious crime in action. Usually they're trying to figure out what happened.

I do not have an RV, but I do carry in my vehicles w/permit. I would rather have one and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The old saying "i'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6. I keep a firearm in my camper. Many places we go and camp there is no ligitimate law enforcement. I have never had to use this force and God willing I never will, but at the point some animal or criminal comes at us I would not hesitate to protect my wife and myself.



The good news is I feel far safer out in the sticks then in the city.

It is unfortunate that the reciprocity is not 100%. Heck, to get a CCW, you have to be background checked, trained, printed, etc. Do I carry in the trailer? Maybe, maybe not .

Not only in the RV, but with the concealed weapon permit leagal in my state I carry it quite often. (everyone who knows how to use one should carry one)
