Sad truth about Dodge

I was wondering if other members have a musical interest, how long they have been playing?

I recently bought a Mandolin. Love it!

Of Course, my truck is 6000 miles away, this may have something to do with my recent hobbies.

The 3 bass strings are nylon with brass/nickel wound. The 3 treble strings are nylon. Flamenco is played with the finger nails, no pick. Hard on the nails. To play it correctly, you have to let your nails grow out on your picking hand.

Being a mechanic by trade, this is s real PITA. Always breaking or spliiting my nails.

I am awesome at air guitar, electric, and bass. My acoustic needs some work :)

I would really like to start playing, maybe I can without actually reading sheet music. My ex g/f plays guitar and bass and I tried to pick up on some of it but...

Playing an instrument

ex g/f plays guitar

Well NPloysa I don't think you could ever learn to play anything but an organ from a G/F.

But if you want to learn, get a vcr tape instruction of the instrument you like. If your best friend played, you would finally be embarressed to ask 'show me one more time, I think I am getting it'. But the vcr doesn't care. I wore out one getting to where I can play Banjo. I started at 55 and I don't read music. I know that is probably the hard way but it was the only way for me. Took me a while and almost drove the wife over the edge but I made it.

I enjoy the Banjo as much as anything I have ever done, with the exception of sex.

i play trumpet. have been playing since 5th grade. almost 40 years now.

i currently play in 2 community bands and 1 community jazz band.

our strongsville community band will be playing at Severence Hall on April 12. No Joke !!!!

Severence is the home of the Cleveland Orchestra. it will be quite an honor to play on the same stage.

Play the guitar a little, started in middle school. Never have been all that good and let it collect dust for a long time, but just bought a new one and hope to get better. ;) My brother was really good, and even won a few medals while he was in high school - I just wish I was half as talented as he was.

I've really thought about trying the mandolin or banjo - I love bluegrass music - but figured I should focus on one instrument at a time. ;)

Eduted for horibul speling.

I was a string bass player in HS but haven't touched a string since then. My wife is a music teacher, so we've got a piano, a hammer dulcimer, and a psaltery just in our living room. The small instruments (pretty much anything in brass or woods and the occasional stringy thingy) are in her music office in the basement.

Up through high school I played every wind instrument except trombone, flute and oboe - bassoon, all the clarinets, all the saxes, all the 3 valved brass instruments, and 2 valve bugle, also played electric bass. Bassoon was my primary instrument with sax being second. I solo'd with the Oklahoma City symphony when I was 14 and was in several honor bands (including all state) every year. Unforetunately I had a falling out with my band director in 11th grade and put my horns up and didn't pick one up again until a few years ago. I have a soprano sax (and NO I don't play Kenny G ;) ) now and am working my way back to being proficient with it.

The wife and I are both music teachers. I play guitar, bass, trombone, euphonium, tuba, piano and percussion.
