My Dodge dealer call this morning and said today is the last day I could order a new truck. If not today I wouldn't be able to order one until after May for a 2016. I was going to order one the 1st of next month because I didn't want it delivered in the snow and salt. I would have liked the have new truck for at least one summer. If I wait and order a 16 I would get it just in time for the **** weather again. In 2004 I tried to buy a new dodge truck and got screwed around and lied to buy 5 different dealers about what they had in stock. On one of them I drove from MI to AK for a truck and when I got there they didn't have it and said the one they had was really close. I have never dealt with so many lowlifes as when I tried to buy a new dodge. So I wound up buying a used one with 13k on it.

I ordered mine from Dave Smith in 10/06.
Truck was in the dealers lot in 29 days.
Lucked out as I read about some long delivery times back then.

I was pleasantly surprised. Mine was ordered on March 2nd, and I currently have a ship date of Mar 23rd. Not sure how long it takes to get to AZ from there, I assume quick since it's built in Mexico, but that time frame seemed quite reasonable.

So is this just a rant or a question? I was told if I want to order a 2016 I should be able to within a couple of months. I've got a pretty great local dealer, if you don't just call Dave Smith, many many many people have and been happy.

Can't order a new truck until May 2016? I'm raising the bullchip flag.

I no sooner got to the shop this morning and the dealer I had planned on buying from called and told me he just got a call today saying that today was the last day he could put in an order, and I would have to wait until May to order a 2016. So yes I was ******, ranting or whatever. So blowing off the work in the shop that had to be done because I will be in TX next week, we started calling larger dealers. In WI and TX and they said the 3500 could still be ordered but at the end of this month you could no longer get one with a aisin until the 2016 orders start. It is hard to tell who is telling the truth. I also wanted the 4x4 shifter on the floor. The TX dealer said that would not be a problem even on a long star or a big horn. The WI dealer said he didn't think so and he would call back by the end of the day, he didn't. So I really don't know what to believe. I don't have the time to get this figured out. Last month when I was in TX I planned on stopping at some dealers but just ran out of time again. I was down there during that last storm that was going on. On the north side of Little Rock I drove 35mph in a 70mph for hours. Then all the way through out IL was the same. If it isn't one thing it's another.

That makes sense. Can't order until May for a 2016. You originally wrote can't order until May 2016. Big difference.

I start the rumor, They had to stop production to fit the new VM Motori in the 2500 and 3500s. Cab and chaises will get the VM next year. :)

No you all have it wrong Dakota's get the 6.0 Power Stroke, 1500 the VM Motori, 2500 the Yanmar, 3500 the Detroit 60 series, the 4500 CAT and new for 2016 the 5500 gets ether the EMD or GE 710 series. Cummins is too busy building engines for Nissan and Toyota.

Build and then search inventory on ramtrucks.com to find in stock, somewhere, what you want. No nail-biting, long wait, or worrying whether you will get what you want, and whether the price will go up before you get it.

I find it easier to negotiate price on an order as opposed to searching inventory. Seems like when you find a truck you like the dealer already added the $600 security system which you don't need, and the tint, and the paint protectant, etc. In addition you cut off the opportunity for the dealer to use their tactic of selling based on emotion if the truck is physically at a place where you can look and touch it, not to mention if it's an ordered truck it's more of a "bonus" sell of a truck they never had to store on their log and insure on their lot. I just saved (with rebates) over $12k off MSRP on a Longhorn from a local dealer. I don't think I could have negotiated the price down as much if the truck was sitting across town.

That's one thing I did not like about DaveSmith is every truck had their side windows tinted and paint protectant and detail whether or not you wanted it! On the detail my truck was never done so I sent them pics and they refunded my money. That's funny I paid exactly 12K less than the list price on my LongHorn also. Best part AutoNation gave me 3K more in trade than DS would have.

So is it a fact no more 15's can be ordered at this time or is it 16's can't be ordered until after May?

From what we learned today is the big dealers haven't been cut off they expect to be able to order at least to the end of March. The dealer buy us is a little outfit and only sold a few dual's last year thats why they get cut off sooner and they said that was to be expected. We checked with Dave Smith today, they have more 3500 in stock then all the dealers in the U.P. of MI have trucks combined. I think we found a dealer in WI with no stories and no bull seams to be a straight shooter. I would like to know how you got 12k off the msrp thats better then the employee discount. The wife has been on the phone all day hopefully buy Monday we will have something figured out.

How I got better was I was able to negotiate down to the EP price and also negotiate to keep the current 2,000 manufacturers rebate, plus the $500 "truck month" discount that was going on for through March 2nd (I ordered mine on the last day of Truck Month). Much of the time there's manufacturer discounts, but they do a switch-a-roo when you get there and give you say $2k OVER EP, even though they told you you were getting EP because they took it upon themselves to keep the rebate themselves.

As a long time business owner, It is pretty easy to get 12k off MSRP. I only deal with the fleet manager at a very large dealer. I got almost 11k off my current 2011 in my sig. Happy hunting. It does take time to put together your deal, but I love it.

I heard it was a caterpillar in the 3500 and a Fiat in the 2500.......

I don't think there would be a Caterpillar in the 3500s. Caterpillar doesn't make truck engines any longer. At one time I built one that would have worked. And even offered to test one in my 98.5 but it didn't happen. We made one inline 6 that may have fit, but I don't know where they build it at. There are very few if any that are built in Mossville IL.
