I have a Mag Hytec transmission pan with a drain plug Normally I would let the truck sit for a couple of days pull the plug and drain out 9-10 quarts. Then when I dropped the pan to do the filter or other things a couple times I would not have such a drippy of a mess but still got pretty messy. I’m trying to mitigate the mess for my two creeper helpers in my up and coming repairs. Question can I start the truck for a bit and let it pump more fluid thru to drain out or do I risk hurting the transmission. I know there’s also a way to drain the torque converter but I have never done this before. Thanks

There is no way to drain a factory converter, aside from drilling hole in it....
I recommend strongly against that idea of starting the engine with an empty transmission, that pump isn't meant to pump air and the whole transmission has only plain bearings in it that need oil pressure to work.

So wheres the drain plug ? The bolt on the bell housing cover been a couple of years ? Since I been under there. Since new right bionic knee I suppose

Not to bad at wally world for their super tec or whatever they call it. That's what I used the last time. From what I understand it is all made to the same spec of atf+4 to have the label.

Do you think I can drain the oil drop the pan and install the new parts and then do a key on no start test to see if the fuse holds before reinstall the pan and fluid. Would that be a good idea ?

I would, no sense dropping the pan more than once. But then I would be ohmming every pin on the trans end to find out if any ohmmed to ground.

We will try the 8 wire plug is very high up on the transmission and plugs from top down if that makes any sense. Very hard to access the plug end on the transmission. But I have a idea that might work I now have a spare plug with 8 wires. Anthony can plug the new plug in and we can access the ends of the wires to do a ohm to ground all 8 wires should make it much easier to do After we change the parts and before we put the pan back up
